5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, 7 Mar. 2016

I just love this. It's so satisfying to pop out perfect plectrums from old bank cards, old dvd cases and plastic tubs. Great fun. It had paid for itself within half an hour of taking it out of the box.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK speaker for 20 quid. But not a bargain!, 6 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ordinary customer review. Arrived today so only initial usage being commented on at this stage. Sounds fine for a 20 quid speaker. Connected instantly. Decent volume for my purposes; hearing workout app on my ipod touch. Slight distortion at full volume. Nice rubbery feel to the finish. But Amazon should absolutely not allow this to show as discounted from around £200. It is not and I am willing to bet never was a £200 speaker. It is a £20 speaker for £20, plain and simple. It isn't likely you'd get a £200 speaker for 20 quid, second-hand in a charity shop. You're really not likely to get one new on Amazon. I didn't expect to. But I thought it might be a genuine discount of some kind. It isn't particularly. At around £20, it's just selling at the price it ought to be. I would like to see Amazon take steps, if possible, to discourage such ridiculous, fallacious knockdowns. I'd also like to see Amazon make a separate review section for reviews solicited by sellers. Such reviews are not entirely useless but a quick way to know the difference would help. Hence the three stars on the overall deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterfully crafted., 26 Feb. 2015

This volume is, in my opinion, now the definitive resource for serious scholars of the life and career of Robert the Bruce. Its thoughtfulness and level of detail are clearly the products of a career spent exploring and digesting the topic with graduate and undergraduate students. Penman addresses every pertinent issue, marshalling the evidence with meticulousness and skill to provide convincing lines of argument. He is careful to be clear where he is employing thoughtful speculation based on sources which are no longer extant but which can be glimpsed in shadow in other works. His interpretation of extant sources is as insightful as it is comprehensive. Since the first publication of Professor Barrow’s seminal work on Bruce in the 1960s many scholars have taken the subject on and contributed significantly to our understanding of the Bruce reign, none more so, in my opinion, than A.A.M Duncan, Colm MacNamee and Michael Penman. This volume by Penman sits firmly at the pinnacle of the scholarly treatments of Robert the Bruce and is likely to do so for some considerable time.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unequivocal masterpiece, 7 Aug. 2008

I have just watched it on the big screen at the GFT in Glasgow. Cinema at its finest. The city itself is featured spectacularly and the stories of the main characters are told with warmth and humour in a masterful screenplay. The subtitle translation for English speaking viewers captures all of the subtle pathos and comedy and the soundtrack is sublime. You wait a long time for gems like this.
