John and Margaret, 4 July 2012
This story, the author's first novel, has all the basic elements you would expect in a melodramatic yarn set in the turbulent years of the early twentieth century. If you like your characters upright, familiar and holding no unsettling, surprise revelations, this is the book for you. With a Christian element reminiscent of the moral ideals in the wholesome prizes given for Victorian scholarly achievement, the story stays true to its claims of romance right to the end. I feel that if a bit more mud had stuck to some of the overly decent principals, the writing would have proved a little more robust.
