Fascinating account of two very different lives, 24 July 2006
I too enjoyed this book. Vikram Seth seems to enjoy writing long books often with some heavy going passages but this time I sailed through finding it difficult to put the book down. The two main characters have such an interesting past. They come from completely different backgrounds, religions and countries but somehow they get together (takes quite a while) and make a success of their partnership. I found the passages relating to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany very moving especially after the war where Henny is trying to discover details and find out who was true to her family. The only frustrating part of the story is how routine their life becomes as they grow old and illness and senility take over. A very worth while read.
