Cole & Mason Precision Grind Forest Capstan Dark Wood Salt Mill, 12 cm
Cole & Mason Precision Grind Forest Capstan Dark Wood Salt Mill, 12 cm
Price: £11.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice weight, form, 26 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nice weight, form, colour and indeed action.

Problem is the screws holding the grinding mechanism to the base of the wooden body have rusted, the rust having spreading out, appetisingly contrasting with the whiteness of the salt. You'd think a reputable company like Cole & Mason would have chosen the right type of metal/ alloy for screws operating in a kitchen environment.

Also jarring is the ease with which the surface of the wooden body is scratched, exposing a colour staining that is skin-deep. If the price were half of what it is, you might expect these design/ manufacturing weaknesses, but it's a £12 grinder from a well-known brand in the field. Hmmm...

I liked the design and expected that a product from a company that prides itself on making shoes that provide "[f]ashionable, yet functional mens footwear with no compromise on comfort [...]" etc would fit better than this. I am a 7.5 yet I could not get these size 8 slip-ons to.. slip on! Purpose defeated... It's very disappointing as I've owned a very serviceable, comfortable pair of Ecco shoes for the last 10 years or so and they've now given up the ghost; I had high hopes for this Irving model but it's much too narrow, certainly for a (somewhat) wider foot like mine, from midfoot to forefoot. Seems that you have to be a slip of a thing to slip them on... Pun over - though disappointment still there.

Message to Mr Ecco: please provide clarification of width fittings (like Clark's F/G/H ratings) for your different models so that customers might be in a better situation to choose shoes that are more likely to fit their foot type.

This review is from: Cross Court Tennis 2 (App)
Excellent, surprisingly realistic tennis game. Better than Virtua Tennis 4 on my PC! Feels like you're on a real court - albeit a tiny one. Got the paid version to get rid of ads, well worth it.

Note to Amazon: your DRM, which requires app users to have Amazon Appstore installed on their mobile device and be logged in to their account in order to use *any* app downloaded from Amazon has put me off getting any more apps from you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as stated!, 11 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought for my father, who has lots of issues related to age and arthritis. He uses these in his sandals, believe it or not, because they are not cushioned, and keeps them in plac ewith Blu-Tack!

Well, they seem to provide good cushioning, according to my father, as per their stated purpose (nice change); he's had them a few weeks and so far they'res still holding up, unlike other insoles I've read about that flatten quickly.

So cost-to-benefit is a winner here. Remember, they're completely flat, though, no arch support or anything like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice printer, even better with cashback, 11 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Have only used this printer a little but my experience so far is that it is very quiet - unlike the Brother (HL-2037) I had before, which liked to fan itself (so to speak) noisily for ages before and after printing... It prints precisely, clearly and fast, with decently black blacks and reasonable graphic reproduction for a laser. Connected to my laptop via ethernet without too much fuss - not a network person, took me a while before I realised the installation programme was not automatically finding the port parameters on its own and that I had to look up the PC ethernet port and subnet mask addresses for myself and enter a valid local IP for the printer.

One issue is the size of the printer; it does take up more of my good-sized desk than I had anticipated, though height rather than footprint is the main concern, as the thing looks like an imposing box; still, it *is* designed as an office printer and I did buy it for personal use, having been seduced by the £50 cashback: can't argue with a £52 auto-duplex, 1200x1200 dpi, 3000-page-yield printer, box or no box! (Note that you can *alternatively* register the machine for a free 5-year on-site warranty; either way, the offer is ending soon so get your skates on.)

Another minor bother is the paper tray, which is open at the back and needs to be pulled out another 2cm from the back of the printer to accomodate A4 paper. This is in spite of the fact that the printer is already 36cm deep... I really don't understand why so many modern printers are designed this way, as if the tray were an afterthought; my old Brother had the same depth but fully contained A4 paper. All this to say: keep an eye on dust getting into the machine from the back.

You may want to compare this model side by side with the Samsung M2825ND, which is neither as deep nor as high (though still have to pull out tray at back for A4): more expensive, lower page yield but has 4800x600 dpi and 3-year warranty ("pick up and return").

Honestly, though... Niggles aside, this is a fine and fast printer; if you don't mind the boxiness, it's all good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price, 1 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought for my father, who is 80 and has worn knee cartilage, arthritis, sensitive feet, etc. He finds these insoles helpful, but note that he uses them over double-thick insoles (flat, no profile) we bought on Amazon at the same time as these ones, and this helps reduce the impact of standing and walking on his feet and legs. They seem to be well made and you can't complain about the price! Note that the arch supports are fairly light, this product being essentially to cushion footfall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stuff at a very reasonable price, 20 Aug. 2014

Excellent stuff at a very reasonable price. Organic Egyptian seed pressed in Germany; says it all, doesn't it. Doesn't it? ;)

You've done your research, you know black seed is a panacea - or you should know if you're on this page and reading this naff review. Black seed oil can be used for allsorts, in and out. We use it mostly for digestion issues, though I have rubbed some on my elderly father's painful back and got good results.

Good temporary filler. My 80 year old father, who has lots of arthritis and other problems, uses this for his remaining tooth, which has a sideways cavity that requires a periodic filling revision. Couldn't find it in the shops any more so came to Amazon and was glad to find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good bang for your TONBUX!, 20 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent phone for the price. May not be a Samsung Note 3, upon which it is based in design terms but it's a solid performer and the HD screen is very accurate and a pleasure to use; not great in bright daylight or wherever there's a wide diffusion of bright-ish light as there's a fair amount of screen reflection - though this is what you find with most phones that are not AMOLED, I believe. (Indoors, though, I can happily use it at 50% brightness.) IPS viewing range is decent but not a full IPS implementation, it seems to me.

Includes screen protector, which is well-applied. Should mention though that this gets scratched up pretty quickly (micro scratches from normal use of the touchscreen that show up when viewed at an angle). So I'm not using that any more, I've gone "commando"; you will need to go back to the seller for replacements as you cannot use a Galaxy Note 3 screen protector.

Phone contruction is solid with a metal frame, slightly bigger than Samsung Note 3 and a bit thicker but it has a very good finish and sits nicely in the hand - even if it weighs in at 200g (with flip cover) and is a two-hander in practical terms! The metal-looking buttons on the sides are actually plastic, I think, with the power button being a little too recessed IMO; home button teeter-totters about a central fulcrum point rather than being supported across whole width when depressed. None of this is a big deal, given the price, just that I'm not sure how long these placticky buttons will last - e.g. volume up button currently showing signs of non-compliance.

Call quality - for those of you who still use your mobile phones for actual calling ;) - is good, no problems noted. Speakerphone seems not so clear to me, though how much this is the speaker and how much the quality of the line itself, I am not sure. For sound playback purposes (music/ video), the speaker does a decent job even if it can struggle at times to reproduce lows and mids without some amount of buzzing at higher volumes - again, this is due partly to the frequency response range of the speaker and partly to poorly-optimised sound files. Still, I don't understand why the speakers on these big phones are so small (~ 3mm by 8mm)... Nuts!

Performance... Antutu gives around 17,000 score, which is more than enough for most applications and on a par with Samsung's Galaxy S3. (As a matter of interest, it is half the score of a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but that has 8 cores operating at a higher frequency.) Use Antutu X to get correct results and hardware info as this phone, like many Chinese generics, uses fake data (says you have an Exynos 5420 octacore processor instead of a Mediatek MT6582 quad core, 1920x1080 res instead of 1280x720, etc).

Battery... It lasts about a day with normal use - I believe it's not actually a 3200mAh, more likely a 2800mAh (but it's pretending to be a Samsung, remember!). This is to be expected for a quad core smartphone with 5.7" of screen. Good news is that there are 2 batteries! Note that it takes about 6h to fully charge the phone from your USB 2.0 PC port and about 3-4h from mains; if you can, turn phone off while you charge it to improve these times. Charger not one of the best: a 3-part job consisting of a 2-pin (Euro-standard) charging unit, a Euro-UK plug adapter and a detachable USB cable. Mine has stopped charging the phone correctly after a few uses - it stops charging midway or doesn't charge at all. Perhaps not surprising with all those connections. Possibly underpowered. Awaiting a replacement from seller. If the replacement is forthcoming - and functional - I'll come back and add that 5th star.

If the above description seems a bit negative, note that I'm trying to give a faithful warts-n-all appreciation of the device and that the negatives are essentially niggles. The phone is, overall, a cracker and you won't be disappointed. It does everything you need on a lovely, large screen, it looks very smart, and it comes with a protective leather flip cover. You can't ask for more at this price point... Though I *did* get a little bit more as I bought mine when it was still £79! :P

3.0 out of 5 stars No better than a standard-charge battery in my experience, 28 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The title says it all. This has almost twice the charge of a standard battery yet I have seen no increase in standby/ working time. Might as well save 50 odd pence and get a Samsung branded battery. I didn't bother returning it, wasn't worth the time & effort.
