It's daft to rave about spoons, but they are good! It's the perfect solution to either losing parts of a loose set, or having to wash all of them every time you use one because they are joined together. The narrow ends fit into spice jars, but double-ends also mean you can use one spoon twice without having to wash it between ingredients. I was bought them, and had to buy my Mum a set when I moved out! The only down side is they can "stick" to other utensils in the drawer. Doesn't bother me, but apparently it drives my Dad mad!

If you loved it the first time around (when you was a youff), you'll love it for the nostalgia alone. (I loved it for Jonny Lee Miller as well, and it's sparked a bit of a JLM film spree!) I doubt it would have the same appeal if you came to it afresh. It is dated, due to the graphics, technology and young cast, but the music is spot on. It's a feel-good movie that probably has more in common with the brat-pack movies of the 80s than the gritty "Trainspotting" and "Lock, Stock..." films of the late 90s. It can almost find it's own way to the DVD player I've watched it so many times.

It's a mish-mash of period/modern and, as long as you're not a purist, it works. On the whole the mix of costumes, music and language from past and present makes it lively, cheesey and only occassionally jarring. There are some cracking one-liners. And you can play spot the comedian. Jonny Lee Miller's accent is uncharacteristically wandering, but I could probably forgive that face anything. The supporting cast is full of big names giving great performances. Daft but entertaining.

I was introduced to this years ago, and was doubtful I'd like it. Loved it! It's impossible not to get swept up in the high energy of some of the tracks. You might not always be sure what they are lamenting, celebrating or protesting against, but dagnabbit, you're with them every step of the way! I went back to this after loving Bellowhead's recent "Broadside" tour/album. Give both a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stands up to repeat viewing, 20 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Complicity [DVD] (DVD)
Bought due to the promise of a quality cast - gorgeous JLM, a young Keeley Hawes, Bill Patterson - and the author of the original book - Iain Banks. It has the same director of "The Crow Road" (another Banks novel), and shares the same atmospheric look and feel. The sex and violence are not over-played, and the plot, script and locations shine through.

I was lured in by the casting of Jonny-Lee Miller. I didn't hate it, but found the plot increasingly ridiculous and frustrating. I didn't think it would rate a second viewing, but gave it a shot after a month or so. The cast and quality production probably save it from being a turkey, and the plot is fast-paced and engaging. If you're looking for something a notch above though, give "Complicity" a go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sing-a-long-a-kirsty, 20 Jun 2013

Bought for the well known tracks such as the classics "Days", "A New England" and "They Don't Know", as well as the tongue-in-cheek songs "In These Shoes", "England 2, Columbia 0" and "Don't Come the Cowboy". Even non-fans are going to know more songs than they may think. There are a few songs that didn't grab me after a couple of listens, but most are corkers that need to be sung at top volume in the car/shower/kitchen. A lot of the lyrics include witty female observations, but more in a gently mocking tone than a full on Alannis Morrisette angry rant.
