3.0 out of 5 stars Practice makes perfect, 14 Dec 2010
The age-old dilemma of do I look cool but risk my phone getting scuffed or do I look a bit naff but have a well-protected iphone screen surely applies here. Like contact lenses I think practice makes perfect when applying these covers - I am still getting air bubbles and a very noticeable lack of alignment but for the price I think these are a reasonable buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fearsomely good, 12 Dec 2010
This review is from: Navigators Dinosaurs (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a superb book - glossy pictures and intriguing factoids abound, and my six year old daughter has had her nose buried in it for the past week since it arrived! Having previously purchased its companion: Navigators: Oceans and Seas I quickly sought this one out - for the price you get a lot, and the balance between fun and education is spot-on. The hardback format gives a real feeling of quality and the care that must have been put in to researching and producing this book and I plan to see if there are any further books in this great series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Measured text, 12 Dec 2010
My first experience of Shakespeare's problem play about sex and legalism was as a set exam text I had to teach this year. This edition of the play text is ideal for both GCSE and A-Level, and would also be appropriate for younger Secondary school students should it be on the curriculum. Unlike the Cambridge New Shakespeare version, the supporting text and layout are extremely accessible, although unlike that edition it is slightly lightweight in terms of academic detail.
Overall I would definitely recommend this for both students and teachers of the play, and for those simply interested in understanding the play better it would also be well suited.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft shoe shuffle, 12 Dec 2010
As my brother-in-law perenially seems to need new indoor footwear, I thought I'd find him something a bit more robust this year. These moccasins fit the bill perfectly; warm, comfortable and well put-together, I'm optimistic that they'll survive his next birthday at least!

4.0 out of 5 stars A grower (as The Todd would say), 12 Dec 2010
This review is from: Scrubs - Season 7 [DVD] (DVD)
As another follower of this great TV series for its first 7 years I'm intrigued by the disparate reviews posted here. I was massively disappointed with the first two episodes of this series; it just seemed like the magic had gone and that the characters were simply going through the motions; constant themes such as the perpetually on/off relationship between JD and 'Barbie' seemed to have been flogged to death while regulars such as the crazy janitor and wet-lettuce mortuary attendent Murphy had long exhausted their limited repertoires - let's not get started on manhood-obsessed 'The Todd'.
However, as the series got into its stride things began looking up. The mother of JD's baby, Kim, was swiftly dispatched, while The Janitor regained his lustre and the brilliantly hapless hospital attorney, Ted, made a welcome reappearance. Overall it's a shame that writer's strikes curtailed further episodes and the ordering of the DVD is very annoying.
Standout episodes include the Zach Braff directed fantasy 'The Princess' - gimmicky but a fun parody of The Princess Bride; Dr Kelso's triumphant swansong, and the one where JD and Turk spend the entire episode fighting. Not vintage Scrubs by any means, but a solid (if truncated) season nevertheless.

Price: 10.11

5.0 out of 5 stars Sticky fingers, 8 Dec 2010
I find it nigh on impossible to rhapsodise about sellotape; suffice to say that I also was misled into thinking this was a box with different sized rolls in but am still happy as this size fits my dispenser! Sellotape is still way better than other brands and I am completely satisfied with every aspect of this product - despite the misleading picture on the box.

Tenn-Outdoors Men's Full Finger Skeletal Off Road Cycling Gloves - Blue, X-Large
Price: 14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy for winter cycling, 8 Dec 2010
These gloves initially seemed a little inflexible for gripping bike handles effectively, however once worn a few times they became much better. They are very warm and comfortable (even at -1 degrees!) and seem sturdy and thick so would provide good protection should one have a spill. On the expensive side but definitely worth it and I wouldn't do without them.

Well-made football socks that fit shoe sizes 7-11. These came quickly and were a competitive price when compared against those on sale on the Arsenal online shopping site.

Language and Power: A Resource Book for Students (Routledge English Language Introductions)
Language and Power: A Resource Book for Students (Routledge English Language Introductions)
by Paul Simpson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 18.69

4.0 out of 5 stars The power of language, 8 Dec 2010
Of the many English Language A-level textbooks on the market this is one of the most impressively put-together. From the striking cover to the detailed and accessible text contained within, Simpson and Mayr have left few stones unturned in their quest to provide A-level students with knowledge of how Language can reflect power and influence situations - in both written and spoken modes.
As an A-level English Language teacher I can heartily endorse this for both students and teachers and use it regularly when preparing lessons and researching topics for discussion.
