The Gleaming Clouds
The Gleaming Clouds
by Murray Alfredson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost two books in one, 17 May 2014

This review is from: The Gleaming Clouds (Paperback)
Murray has produced a really good and thought provoking book. which could almost be two books in one. HIs re-workings and translations of older texts are elegant and traditional, whilst the other more modern style offerings give an insight into him and his beliefs. Very readable and well laid out with interesting foreword which gives good insight to the author and his journey to publish this collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, topical, satyrical and scarily true, 20 Mar 2014
Barrie does a great job of diarising and condeming the politcial comings and goings of everyday life in the run up to the general election in 2015.
His web site, [...], is well worth a visit for the way he disects and criticises the main political parties and shoots them down on a daily basis for their inept and corrupt party games. His daily limericks, so funny and unmissable, are now available in this book. Laugh out loud good, whether reading them front to back or dipping in and out, I can't wait for the next volume. With his prolific output, I'm sure there will be another volume along soon.
Don't let them get away with it - Support Barrie in 2015 !!!!

This Way Delight: Book of Poetry for the Young
This Way Delight: Book of Poetry for the Young

1.0 out of 5 stars very bad description - NOT what it says on the tin, 26 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very disappointed and very angry at being duped.
At no point in the description does it say that this is an anthology "Selected" by Herbert Read. It gives the impression that the poems are BY Herbert Read.
I needed a book of his verse for my weekly workshop and looked forward to receiving this. What a disappointment. Perhaps not a bad book in itself, but I wasn't looking to buy an anthology and I wouldn't have purchased it if the product description had been correct.

2.0 out of 5 stars watch out for the gasometer, 7 April 2013

Generally I'd say keep away from this but the poem descriptive of the countryside which throws in a description of a gasometer is so weird and awful, it's actually funny. Source of laughter for our workshop for some weeks.

5.0 out of 5 stars briliant, 7 April 2013
I didn't realise how bad my sleep pattern was intil I bought these. These curtains blacked out my room and I suddenly started sleeping 8 hours without waking up in the night. Street lamps and south facing room meant it was too light. These blackout curtains darkened my room and sorted out my sleep problems overnight. Really. Overnight.

The man who wrote the wonderful "At Roane Head" can also sometimes churn out fairly standard stuff. Not terrible, but I kinda expect more from him.
