3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not very funny, 11 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book has an interesting scenario but actually is rather slow and not particularly funny. While I enjoyed reading it I don't think I would have bought it if I'd known how it would read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, fits well, 11 Oct. 2013

Nice stylish case with soft foam lining, fits my 13" MacBook Pro with rtetina perfectly. Canvas and leather exterior looks nice and natural. Fairly long delivery from China (1 week to UK from order) but tracking with DHL was good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light read in the garden, 3 Nov. 2009
This review is from: The Gardener's Year (Paperback)
This is a delightful little book, the sort of thing that every gardener will love to read. It is not a children's book, nor a gardening manual, but a light-hearted look at how a gardener thinks and operates, clearly based on first-hand experience. I've never heard anyone else describe their fights with a garden hose, but the author touches on lots of such things that we all think but rarely verbalise. The text is accompanied by a set of delightfully cranky drawings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go create your own varieties..., 3 Nov. 2009
This book is destined to become a classic, if it is not already. The author brings professional botanical and genetic knowledge and practical gardening together in a way that an intelligent gardener can follow easily. It makes a good read in one go, and then acts as a reference book for specific techniques and plants. It is very much about what it says in the title - breeding your own vegetable varieties. You will need other books on organic gardening and seed saving if you want help with specifics of those things. I found the book stimulating and visionary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perennial vegetables, 3 Nov. 2009
This review is from: Perennial Vegetables (Paperback)
This is the most complete book I have seen on perennial vegetables. The short general introduction is a summary of a few gardening techniques - see other books on permaculture and organic gardening for more detail if you are a beginner. The articles on each vegetable (over 100 of them) are the heart of the book and are thorough, interesting and often based on the author's personal experience. The book is very much centred on the USA and Canada but with occasional references to other countries. There is a leaning towards organic gardening but the book is not focused there. Many of the vegetables are tropical or sub-tropical so European readers will find a great deal of general interest, but will have to search for ones they can grow. I particularly liked and learned from the descriptions of water garden plants.
