5.0 out of 5 stars English & US swingmates, 16 Oct 2009

Seems Alan Barnes ( UK ) has attracted / persuaded some of the best swing-saxophonist around to record with him. Great music, superb recordings nice serie. Reminds me of the Gerry Mulligan recordings with reed-heroes of his days, Johnny Hodges, Stan Getz, Ben Webster and Paul Desmond. Now it is Alan's turn, so far I collected his cooperation with Ken Peplowksi, Scott Hamilton ( UK resident ) Harry Allen and what a great supporting UK based musicians joined the recordings. All credits to Alan Barnes who plays both the alto, tenor and baritone saxes and what a beautiful tone he shows on clarinet. Anyone who enjoys pleasant and serious swing combo's don't hesitate to try and add these recorings to your collection. It's a pity these are not available and or promoted outside the UK, for sure Euro-continentals will love his music as well !!! The Nagel Heyer family in Germany ( jazz-concert-impresario & recording company ) for sure will like Alan Barnes & Co. Ooops Alan & Scott Hamilton should show up with these swing-cats in the Amsterdam BIM-huis ( local jazz-temple )
