4.0 out of 5 stars A good length to start with, 20 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: CLIX LONG LINE 5M (Misc.)
Working on recall for my retired racing greyhound, I found the longer version was too long to start training with as it gave her enough to get up way too much speed! This 5m version is ideal to start with commands like 'wait' or 'stay', then named recall for the final treat... a piece of Brie which is my secret weapon!
Greyhounds are notoriously independently minded, so having the lead keeps her focused on me, rather than a squirrel she has probably spotted half a mile away. The lead material is smooth enough not to cause friction burns as you let it out, it is also very strong and easy to clean. The only reason this product does not get 5 stars from me is the lack of a stitched loop for a handle, without this to slip over my wrist I am always having to grip extra hard to make sure it doesn't slip away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save the slobber!, 21 April 2012

My greyhound used to make quite a slick across the floor with her messy gulping, but now we are spared the constant mopping with the fabulous Road Refresher! I keep one in the car and one in the house with the inner float surface left out. Leaving the inner float out means my dog can drink more quickly at home and makes the washing up super quick, but still allows for the black top ring to do its anti-slop work! Keeping the dog's mouth in the centre of the drinking bowl reduces to a minimum any drips that escape from the back of the mouth of your longer nosed breed. Of course, in the car, the inner float stops any splashes; in fact, we were recently involved in a serious collision, during which the velcro base stickers held the bowl in place preventing further injury as a potential flying object and virtually no water escaped at all. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Dog Manual!, 4 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With vet bills going through the roof and their side-effect laden drugs becoming more and more prevalent, here's the perfect book to help you help your canine friend. George Macleod certainly knows the best remedies to suggest for all manner of ailments. Having previously used the companion volume on Cats to great effect, I purchased this as soon as I got a dog, in order to be prepared. Animals respond very quickly to homoeopathic remedies (dispelling all those ridiculous nay-sayers' myths about placebo effects!) and this book will help you choose the best remedies to keep in for specific ailments identified by your vet.
Don't be put off by all the Latin names, if you haven't used homoeopathy before, you'll soon get used to it; the book is very simply and clearly written with its' sections logically laid out. The Materia Medica in the back gives an outline of the actions of all the remedies, so you may glean help with an ailment which isn't otherwise listed; for instance, while the common hygroma isn't listed, the remedy Apis is described as useful for oedematous swellings... I tried it on my greyhound, it worked, no needles required!
Whilst I have 20 years of experience using homoeopathy to cure sick and injured people, these volumes are invaluable to me as a pet owner. The book begins with a succinct section about this system of medicine and explains how to use and store remedies. This information is very important so definitely read it carefully.
The only thing not covered is where to buy the remedies from... I am not convinced of the efficacy of many branded mass-produced tablets you will find in the chain stores, these should be avoided in favour of proper pharmacies where medicines are made to order, especially if they make soft lactose pills as you will have no trouble getting your dog to eat one of these. You have nothing to lose and your dog has everything to gain from your purchase of this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vast and frozen wilderness captured on paper!, 4 Nov 2011
I would recommend reading this in the summer, or anywhere reliably warm, as the vividly described chill of the frozen Yukon will freeze you to the bone! From a writer's point of view, Jack London's personal experiences as an adventurer add a depth of understanding he imparts in a way no normal author could achieve. Any dog lovers will also enjoy these stories which are told from the point of view of the canine characters. What I find amazing is the freshness of the style of writing which belies the stories' age, being as they are about a hundred years old. Mind you, the lack of modern clothing, equipment and GPS certainly add to the compelling thrill of these ripping yarns!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even the most choosy giant bunnies love it!, 4 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This has been the staple diet for my giant breed doe for the last 6 years. When I experimented with other brands, she tended to leave selected ingredients in the bowl, making them effectively more expensive. She has always maintained excellent weight and health on this mix and when we recently rescued a giant buck from the RSPCA as a kennel-mate for her, he was thrilled with it too! Between them they hoover up every last scrap and that is the best test of any food.
Of course all rabbits need a good supply of fresh food and hay or grass to graze on, but it is comforting to have a brand of dried food which is reliably excellent both in quality and value for money.
During the winter when they have less time to graze in the garden, I give them Mr Johnson's Fruity Supreme Mix for added nutrition and interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart-rending tale from Victorian London, 4 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'll never forget my dad reading this aloud as a bedtime story, illuminating all the wonderful characters with voices and accents that made us marvel; I'll also never forget how this man who never cried, had tears streaming down his face at the plight of the sweet and innocent central characters in this heart-rending story.
It was written in a time when poverty meant living hand to mouth, owning absolutely nothing. This kind of poverty has been largely forgotten in Britain, but Froggy's Little Brother will bring this sad episode in history to life for you, lest we ever forget. Although the voice of the author as narrator is occasionally a little preachy, this adds to the sense of the period and doesn't spoil the simple yet eloquent storyline. My children (aged 9,11 and 16) all loved listening to me read it (using voices and accents of course!) as I had done as a child, but were much less surprised by my inevitable tears; indeed these modern, computer-game savvy children were equally moved!
Don't let the prospect of a few tears put you off though, there is a beauty about the writing and characters that royally deserves this book's status as a true classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good food, excellent price!, 31 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My 5 year old Greyhound only finished racing this year and is used to this type of food. She really loves it and is maintaining a healthy, lean body on 15oz per day (the feeding guide on the packet tells you how much to give, based on the dog's weight). With a few thin fur patches and a touch of dandruff from her life in kennels to deal with, I have begun adding 1 tablespoon of Hemp Seed Oil per day to the food, in order to supplement richer Omega oils. This is working quickly and effectively without causing any tummy problems, so would recommend you also drizzle hemp seed oil on along with a drop of warm water, to make the dry food more appetising; not that appetite has ever been a problem!
Delivery was speedy and without any unnecessary packaging as the sack is quite sturdy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value starter instrument, 15 April 2011

You won't be expecting a Stradivarius for the kind of money these go for, but we have found the Antoni violins to be very adequate for my young beginners. The three quarter size one I bought was supplied by Top Mark Toys, who provided exemplary service when the first one we received suffered failure from a manufacturing defect. Therefore a four-star violin, but if you're supplied by Top Mark, you can rely on five-star service. I call that peace of mind for a budget product!

5.0 out of 5 stars The kids loved it as much as I did at their age!, 15 April 2011

This review is from: Star Dog (Paperback)
Very little about this book dates it as the 1970's cult classic it has become. The teenage central character does have ambitions to be an astronaut though, which is the only real clue to the story's age! Other than that, it's a sure-fire winner for anyone who enjoys a bit of sci-fi and a thrill of intrigue. The paperback copy I bought was in pretty good condition for its age, although I generally prefer hardcover, but the only ones of those available would have had to come from the U.S. The language was not edited to English grammar, so you have to put up with all those missing "u's", but in some ways I find it adds to the authenticity of this American tale. Go on, you know you want to...!

2.0 out of 5 stars Only useful if you don't use your remote covers and only have 1 nunchuk!, 11 Feb 2011
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Let's skip past the bit where it arrives in the toughest, most lacerate-your-hands-type plastic packet you've ever had the misery to get into with a pair of scissors, and get to the reasons why I bought it... I wanted a quick and easy, plug-in-at-the-end-of-the-day type charger, as normal rechargeable batteries tend to run low quite quickly which spoils your fun on the Wii. It is a lovely shiny black unit which looks much better than the grey stand the console came with.

Unfortunately, both the motion plus sensors and the silicon skin need to be removed in order for the remotes to fit in and make contact with the new rechargeable battery compartment. So the tidying up of accessories reasons for buying it are somewhat negated.

Also, it is a pity that there is storage for only one Nunchuk. As a designer myself, I would either have made two Nunchuk wells or extended the secondary battery charging compartment to allow for 4 AA's instead of the 2 it has room for, as many people would use it to keep a spare set of batteries charged for their balance boards.

The product description mentions that you can tell when charge has been achieved because there is a light around the remote well which glows red when charging and blue when full. What it doesn't mention is that on the front of the unit there is also a piercing bright blue light with absolutely no purpose. If your console is anywhere near your TV, it may range from distracting to painful, to have in your peripheral (or possibly direct) vision. I recommend cutting out a little square of black electrical tape to cover it!

So, if you want a stand that also tidies up your accessories, don't get this one as it will create as much clutter as it stores.
If you were hoping for a simple charger that doesn't require the complete dismantling of your remote every day, well, that's a no too.
If you just want something black instead of the grey console stand you have, and you have more money than you need, then buy it!
