4.0 out of 5 stars Not as detailed as a full score, but good enough, 8 Jan 2010
Unlike the other Wise Publications Beatles songbook (with the psychedelic face artwork on the cover), this book contains every Beatles song, including those written by George Harrison.

Yes, they are not all in their original keys, but I think this was to make it easier to read and play for less-than-masters of music. After all, why print a song in Gb or C# when you can write it in the far easier keys of G and C, just to be pedantic?

It would have been nice if they had included, for instance, the vocal harmonies on Because; but ultimately this book serves its purpose as a songbook. It's great for just whipping out and learning a Beatles song to busk or play for pleasure. There aren't any chord shapes included (at least in the edition I have, bought last week), but the guitar chords are all given apart from one or two which have been mysteriously left out. However, those that have been left out are parts of phrases repeated later in the page, so it's a simple thing to write in the missing chord.

You couldn't really expect more from this book, and it does its job well enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but decent for a sing-along, 13 May 2009
This review is from: The Beatles Complete (Paperback)
First of all, despite claiming to contain "just about every song" by The Beatles, the book does leave out some important ones: Here Comes The Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps included. Presumably this is due to some issue about getting permission from Harrison or his estate. The introduction to the book references to both Lennon and Harrison as still being alive, so it was first published before late 1980. You'd have thought that it would have been updated in the past 30-odd years ...

Also, the songs are generally not transcribed in the key that they were recorded in. Come Together was recorded in Dm, but is written here in Cm, for example. Plus, the inclusion of organ registerations does hint at some truly cringeworthy play-alongs using totally inappropriate instruments; but if it keeps certain people happy, that's fine I guess.

Despite these faults, this is a decent book for studying the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership and their techniques; not to mention learning some of the best songs ever recorded.

I would say check one out in Borders or Waterstones before buying it (on Amazon, of course, where it's cheaper). There may be better books for what this one claims to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old reliable, 8 Jun 2007
Ok, so it doesn't have a camera, bluetooth, a ringtone composer, video calling, a huge screen in 30 million different colours. But, 9 times out of 10, if you drop it, it won't break. Which is more than can be said for some of the more feature-packed phones. Let's face it, you dont get all those features on your landline phone, but then you dont need them. If you simply want a connection to everyone else when you're out and about, and you're not bothered that it's a bit blocky compared to the miniscule things out these days, 25 is a bargain for a phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, sleek, simple to use ..., 24 April 2007
This is a great way to store any DVD's you've ripped to your PC, and are taking up loads of space on your harddrive. Fast transfers, very small and light in weight, simple as can be to use. For less than 60, if you have a computer you might as well get this as well. Loads of space for very little cash.
