5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for desiccated paws., 24 Aug. 2012

I've used this hand cream for over a year, having previously bought very expensive products which were good for the first few uses, but then needed to be re-applied several times per day. I only apply this cream once and it really lasts. It isn't sticky or greasy, sinks in quickly, and importantly (for me) doesn't have a cheap, cloying scent. It definitely takes away dryness and improves the hands' appearance. It's made with colloidal oatmeal (from oats that have been ground very finely) but that doesn't mean it's scratchy - it's very soothing.

If you want a superb, effective cream, then this is it.The price is excellent at Amazon too. Buy it!

I thought that the two parts of the pendant were separated from each other which would have given a pleasing fluidity, but they're joined together and hollowed out at the back making them very lightweight. For under £20 though, you do get a neat,'safe' piece of jewellery-it just didn't have that individual 'designer' look that the photo promised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 8 Aug. 2012

I was dubious about this novel, thinking that it would read more like a screenplay. It turned out to be the most well-written,multi-layered crime novel that I've ever read-and I've read a lot.It was brutal and uncompromising in its depiction of violence and the moral choices that Luther had to make.Neil Cross doesn't fall back on cliches to depict his characters, and Luther is presented in such a seductive way that he can convince both the reader and the other characters that his actions are totally necessary. The fear that Neil Cross inculcates in the reader is tangible-I have never read anything that was so frightening as when the killer confronted his victims.A superlative writer and an excellent book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Even Lugs and Sonsie can't save this one., 8 Aug. 2012
The focus of this series of novels has always been on village life with its eccentric characters. The engaging personality of Hamish Macbeth as he solves cases, avoids promotion and fights off the ladies (well, sometimes)has kept me reading these novels even when the quality of the writing wavers.Unfortunately, these elements that ensured the longevity of the series are missing in this book-the villagers only have walk-on parts and Hamish has lost his spark, becoming very unpleasant in the process. The plot is peculiar:it starts off in a recognisable way with trouble at Lochdubh, but then escalates unbelievably into a rapidly sketched story involving psychopaths and Russian gangsters and a great deal of violence.I think I read these now because I was hooked on the earlier novels, but there has been a sharp downward curve in quality. Not recommended at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb product., 8 Aug. 2012

This is an absolutely brilliant cover that makes reading on the Kindle 4 a very comfortable experience. It is made from soft leather, with a black interior and a 1cm wide elastic closure band. The Kindle 4 fits securely into 2 leather straps at the bottom corners and has 2 thinner elastic straps at the top making it very easy to remove for charging. All buttons are easily accessible and the case can be held opened out or folded back and secured with the elastic band. However,it's the Tuff-Luv innovatory hand-holder that sets this apart from the competition. On the inside cover is a wide band, elasticated top and bottom, into which you can slip your fingers to steady the Kindle whilst reading-even holding it with one finger gives you security. This means you can hold it comfortably for long periods of time without your hand cramping or feeling that you are going to drop it.I was so impressed by the design that I bought a camera case from the company which was equally superb. This is a quality product which I can highly recommend.

Brodmaw Bay
Brodmaw Bay

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 10 Nov. 2011

This review is from: Brodmaw Bay (Hardcover)
When F.G.Cottam is writing at his best,he is a master of the slow build-up of tension and can't be bettered for the sheer creepiness of his plots and characterisation.Dark Echo and The Waiting Room were truly scary and well-written,but Brodmaw Bay is not of this high standard.

His plots are usually very original and thought-provoking,but this one is a rather tired version of The Wicker Man.The characterisation is also very poor-the language and thought processes of the children, for example, are well beyond their years, and the other characters are unbelievable and not very likeable.Apart from a couple of tense set pieces where I hoped the plot was going to pick up,the momentum faded away and you were left with a rather ho-hum read.

Buy his other novels first for writing that is a rare combination of intelligence and scariness(although I'd give The Magdalena Curse a wide berth).Hopefully,he'll be back on form with his next one.
