5.0 out of 5 stars Beast wars is a great television show and this is a great DVD, 7 Nov. 2014

Beast wars is a great television show and this is a great DVD, shame that there are no other beast war releases after this as there are still episodes leftover in season 3. Of course if they had included 7 episodes like the first DVD then the third release would have only contained two episodes, something else for us fans to complain about!

A fun book, with some interesting additions to the ravenloft setting. A mummy, a banshee, a werewolf, a child vampire, a living house, a cursed sword and a trio of hideous cronies are just some of the new darklords featured here and are sure to give you a new idea or two to add to your own game setting. A note thou, it is only 97 - 100, pages long not 200-odd as stated above.

This review is from: L'inferno [DVD] (DVD)
The actual movie itself is fine, its from 1911, silent and in black and white. It's not going to be interesting for most people but if your interested in early cinema (it was Italy's first feature film) or The Divine Comedy then you will find it interesting. The music they added to it, just put the volume down or mute it, you'll go nuts otherwise. Extras, just a trailer. Very disappointing, no talking heads documentary about the work it's based on, no Italian filmmakers talking about its worth and value to their profession, no explanation of the missing bits of the film (there is a scene featuring people with heads on back to front that cuts suddenly, obviously a missing scene), no attempt to reconstruct the original music that would have been performed when it was played (while the films were silent, they'd often have someone on a piano instrument or a record player for a soundtrack) nothing, just a trailer. A shame.

The Revenge of Frankenstein
The Revenge of Frankenstein

4.0 out of 5 stars A different take on the story of Frankenstein, 6 Feb. 2014

I liked this book. I enjoyed the movie. It is and adaption of the classic Hammer Film of the same name. This is not a straight novelization of course, I'd be boring if it were, perfectly faithful to the movie of course, but boring.
some of the changes make sense, giving the characters back stories and hence more characters, resolving some plot holes from the film, telling us how Frankenstein befriended Carl, we get a lot more insight into Carl's life. Others don't: bits of dialogue are changed around causing them to loose their edge, characters are merged, scenes are moved about, characters are added for no reason, changes are made for the sake of it.
For example - there is a Doctor Brandt in this story that was never in the original film now there was A Dr. Brandt in a later movie, perhaps this was a bit of a nod to that later movie, maybe explaining how he lost his mind, no, instead he dies, the character attend his funeral and that's where Dr. Hans Kleve realizes who Frankenstein really is, however in the film he instead recognizes him from the funeral of a man who died in the first film. Now perhaps this was changed because it is only a novelization of the second film, not the first, but then the later mention that character by name several times, so why change it?
It also totally ruins the blackmail/uncovering scene form the movie, of course it makes more scene for Frankenstein to pull a gun on the man threatening to expose him, but the movies scene was better, again change for the sake of change.
Also Frankenstein isn't like he was in the movie, can you imagine Peter Cushing muttering scum under his breathe every time he treats his patients, I can't, even if his character look down on his patients he's not going to talk to them like that and have them walk off depriving him of their organs for his creation.
I'm probably just nitpicking but the changes annoy me.
I was going to give this book 3 stars but after reading the Authors foreword and seeing his passion for the old Hammer filsm I decided to give it a 4 star review.
Ok but i didn't like all the changes.

Very tasty treats, I ordered them for my sister and she enjoyed them. The chocolate snaps and crackles while in your mouth, an interesting twist on the plain chocolate and caramel chocolate freedo sweets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, 6 Feb. 2014

I enjoyed this graphic novel very well. The artwork was excellent as was the story. While it is a very thick tome I finished it quickly, it is the sort of thing that once you start you can't put it down until its over. The story ends on a cliffhanger of sorts, I can't wait to read the next one. The back of the book contains sketches and concept art, etc, which is interesting to look at. The only thing i would say is that you'd need to read the book before it in order to fully make sense of the story although there are plenty of flashbacks to sort of keep you up to speed.

THE FRANKENSTEIN DIARIES.
THE FRANKENSTEIN DIARIES.
by The Reverend Hubert. (Edited & translated by). Venables
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Rather Good, 23 Dec. 2013
I found this item at a second hand bookshop and it was well worth the £8 i spent on it. I have always been a fan of Frankenstein films, i have several of the universal movies and all of the Hammer ones.
The book is done in the style of a diary (obviously, hence the title!) with a few comments by the books editor, who pro ports to have discovered it among his papers, to try and make sense of the surrounding 'events'.
The author tells a tale similar to the Shelly version (and with a few touches of the universal films)with his own twists and turns added to the narrative.
The book is full of illustrations and drawings ranging to Victor's family, the tools of his trade and of course the monster itself.
There are however some draw backs to the style of writing, the author tries to ape the style of speech of the time and it sometimes comes off as odd sounding and forced (although i am far from an expert, so how knows maybe the authors is in right and I am wrong).
Also at only just over a hundred pages the story is over far too quickly, I managed to finish it in one sitting of about two or three hours.
A book that is best dipped into for a few pages, every now and then.
All in all I found it an enjoyable book.

Romance of Crime (Doctor Who Missing Adventures)
Romance of Crime (Doctor Who Missing Adventures)

5.0 out of 5 stars Humourous Dr Who, 7 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Author Gareth Roberts has excellently captured the style of late 70's Doctor Who to create this book, he has styled it like a season 17 episode, high on humour, funny characters and settings. Of course if you don't like that particular style of doctor who then you'll probably dislike this book. His 4th Doctor, Romana and K9 are captured brilliantly, it is though he actually wrote for them on television. Once I started reading it I didn't put it down until I finished it. The villains are practically one dimensional though, although that does suit the style and the supporting characters are either hilarious or annoying depending on your taste. I thought it was a good book but it was very short at only 240-odd pages, I finished it within three hours easily, not that there is anything wrong with a short book but some might want something more substantial. Also why does the blurb on the back keep the surprise monster reappearance a secret when the books cover spoils the surprise and the chapter title of the chapter they arrive in spoils the reveal but keeps there appearance until the last paragraph, very odd.
A good book, light, humorous but if you don't like that style then I guess it would only be a three star then.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an exceptional good book. It is a little difficult to get into but once you've past the first few chapters it really picks up speed, once it happeend i couldn't put it down until i finished it. A little complicated, not to mention only giving you bits and pieces to go along with at first, the story comes together to a brilliant conclusion. Wouldn't be everyones cup of tea but i found it excellent. The period setting (19th century france) is well explored and the boois sort of a sequel to Christmas on a Rational Planet. A vey good book, well worth a try.

Star Fox Assault (GameCube)
Star Fox Assault (GameCube)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for StaFox Fans, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an essential addition to any StaFox fans collection. It contains the right mixture of ground based missions (like StarFox Adventures) and space based missions (like Lylat Wars) so there is plenty for fans of both game styles. The multiplayer mode is also great fun to play. The only problem that i can see is the short play time, even only playing it an hour or two a day i managed to finish it within a week but there is always the option to go back and play it again at a harder difficulty setting. Despite that it is still a great game to play.
