5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it!, 29 Mar. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I loved this. A comedy thriller and the sort of film that could only be made in the UK. Quite hard to describe but a bit like mixing the Goodies and The Sweeney. Having bought the 2 disc version I sat down and watched the second disc with all the out-takes and lots of interesting information about the making of the film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 19 Jan. 2011

I was expecting an espresso version of Carte Noir with s great coffee taste. What I got was something that reminded me more of supermarket own brand cheapest powdered coffee. Now people's tastes differ so others may like this but I urge anyone thinking of trying it to buy a single jar first.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine historical record, 24 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have no real links with the Isle of Wight apart from having been there once but that did not stop me enjoying this DVD. Not only did it show the old steam trains but the newer electrics and even the British Railways passenger ferries to the island. Nice collection of historical film clips coupled with an informative commentary. Some DVD makers could learn from this!.

1.0 out of 5 stars Diabolical!, 23 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A selection of very bad cine film clips with badly dubbed steam sounds and an annoying musical soundtrack. I have bought many railway DVDs and this is easily the worst ever. Would help if there was any explanation of what we were watching but no!.......that was too much for the people who cobbled this thing together. I have given it one star simply because Amazon do not allow a zero star review. Do not buy this. It is not a fascinating journey to anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best there is!, 13 Oct. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Good Beer Guide 2011 (Paperback)
The Good Beer Guide is, in my opinion, the best there is for finding good ales in a variety of pubs. I would not say it is infallible but then again it is just a guide and is compiled by humans writing about real ale that is served by other humans and human error is always possible as is a change of ownership of a pub or even a change of cellarman.

That said previous editions of the guide have taken me to some great pubs from Aberdeen to Penzance and I regard it as an essential when planning my holidays. Not only great pubs for beer but great pubs for food and accommodation. And the book is also well worth reading. Lots of interesting articles about beer, a guide to the breweries producing real ale and notes about many of the beers they produce.

Yes there will always be criticism that a particular pub is not included but the book includes details of how to nominate a pub for the next edition. Yes some people will moan about a pub being included or will claim the guide is biased against a particular brewery or that some areas with excellent pubs do not get a mention but various local factors may account for that.......areas with no CAMRA branch nearby may not be covered as well as those with a thriving branch.......but for all that the book is by far the best guide to real ale pubs that money can buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good light, 8 Oct. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Followed the assembly instructions carefully and had no real problems. As this was in daylight I just did a quick on and off to check that it worked ok. Later on when there was still enough daylight left to read comfortably I tried reading my local paper with daylight and then with the lamp and was impressed how much clearer the words became.

One word of advice. High vision refers to the light output and not to the height of the lamp. It is actually quite small which of course means that the light is closer to the page but might come as a surprise when you first assemble it.

Good Beer Guide 2010

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 27 Oct. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Good Beer Guide 2010 (Paperback)
Issued every year the Good beer Guide lists a selection of pubs throughout the UK with just one thing in common. They all sell real ale and the ale meets the quality standard demanded by CAMRA members. I have found some fantastic pubs by using the guide and always read the relevant pages when I am going to visit a new town.

As well as listing pubs the guide lists breweries with details of the real ales brewed and it provides some informative pages on topics related to beer. Another section covers CAMRA's "National Inventory" of pubs that are worth preserving for historical interest.

Two warnings!. Do not buy this for someone who does not like real ale unless you are trying to convert them and remember that like all guides there will have been changes since the book was published. Some for the better and some for the worse.

This book gives an excellent insight into growing up as a child with problems. Not really limited to Asperger Syndrome as it could help any parents with a child who does not quite conform to society's definition of normal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Different, 23 July 2009

Must admit that I was surprised by how small this book is but it makes a great little gift to mark a special birthday. Some of the sayings within the book are funny and others are profound. Certainly has solved the problem of finding something memorable that will be talked about for years to come.
