5.0 out of 5 stars Shame on you!, 20 May 2007
Please beware of some earlier opinions, this stand up set is fantastic, I thought 'Monster' was brilliant, although at some times he had appeared nervous it was startlingly clever and very original.

'Like, Totally..' does not fail to raise the bar. The set feels far more complete and free flowing. Some have written he seems 'BORED'?, obviously confusing the words 'bored' with 'relaxed', he seems far more confident in his twisted perspective and how he deliveres it. Yes, he has taken one or two jokes from his 'Monster' set but comics such as Lee Evans have been rehashing the same jokes for the last ten years, the fact that Dylan Moran has expelled so much fresh material is astonishing.

To add...
People expecting Black books 'live' will be disappointed, but only because it's NOT Black books! Heaven forbid he ever try to portray it in a live format (R.I.P `Mitchell and webb' & `The league of gentlemen') Very rarely does a TV show transfer to a live format successfully (the only one springing to mind being The mighty boosh's offering, but then I had seen the show before the DVD which is probably where the added appreciation lies).

Anyway, enough rambling...

Buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe i just don't get it but..., 22 Jun. 2005
This review is from: Begborrowsteel (Audio CD)
This is quite possibly the worst thing i've ever hear the count produce, Don't get me wrong i think the man is a genius 'some music - the porducers cut' is amazing, with a searingly good back catalogue of 40 rare and awsome tunes. then 'dwight spitz' which is another amazing album featuring almost everybody who is anybody, good beats and just generall a fun album. this however is more like an Ep, being only about 40 minitues long, with some dodgy sinth and no additional artists, this is just a bit too weak. it may grow on me, but for now this sits next to my Cinnamon album, which is also too strange and inaccessible for it's own good

3.0 out of 5 stars dated. BUT, 7 Mar. 2005
not classic(not well known enough to be called that) not timeless(cruddy beats bass and rythms)but frik me if this aint the original shiz, alongside artists such as lateefah, and the ROOTS. it retains hip hop from the past, and seemlessly predicts THE artists in hip hop today(although the track wit Roots is hactually more reggae than anything).
if you havn't heard coldcut before i strongly recommend you buy 'journeys by Dj' or 'let us play' first, then regress through the history of coldcut with an album like 'coldkrushcuts' THEN once your mind is truly open, you can get some albums by other beat based pioneers; 'meat beat manifesto' 'nizterebb' 'front242'. happy lsitening

3.0 out of 5 stars def let down...., 13 Feb. 2005
I expected so much more. previously as far as label mix albums go, i had a few eastern conference albums, the two previous def jux albums, and "FAREWELL FONDLE 'EM" which is still my fav, eastern conference seem to hold most of the talent ie.. copywrite, cage, mighty mi, camu tao..... but dont get me wrong, i'm an avid fan of RJD2, and El-P's work on cannibal ox's "The cold vien" is incredible. which brings me back to "FAREWELL FONDLE 'EM" which is almost a collaboration of both labels. i can only dream of the potential a merger would have ummmm... definitive conference anyone??

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad at all..., 19 Jan. 2005
inspiring album, i bought this to hear the original classical gas after hearing the acoustic version on various mp3's all it would seem have been credited to eric clapton(not sure it is, i havn't investigated far enough yet) but ne ways, this album is great, i dont enjoy crooning in the slightest(hence the four stars) but theres more here than meets the eye, somthing almost psychotic, raulduke-esque. if your taste includes crooning then buy this, if your a musician and want a kick in the pants buy this. all round good stuff

4.0 out of 5 stars um..., 19 Jan. 2005
dont really have much of an opinion on this, i dont have it, dont want it, but how the hell can this be a 'tribute' to the white stripes? just a guess but i'd say that leadbelly PROBABLY wrote boll weevil first and PROBABLY died before the stripes even born. as for the others, still dont know dont care but the fact that original artisists apear on a tribute, astounds me.
