5.0 out of 5 stars another great pilger documentary film, 4 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Utopia - John Pilger [DVD] (DVD)
Aboriginals the first australians are treated very badly by the establishment there

pilger presented facts and contradictions about australia

the ABCtv programme, 'liveline' is shocking about lies against the Aboriginals

its films like this that showed why australia is booming but is discriminated against the first australians

pilger is still on fine form, its very shocking, very sad and you are very emotional at the end of the film

the extras on the dvd are a real bonus with long versions of interviews in the film

Episodes[edit]

1 "Episode 1" Jane Campion Jane Campion March 18, 2013
In the small town of Laketop, New Zealand, a young girl named Tui Mitcham tries to drown herself in a lake. After she is rescued, a school nurse notices that Tui is pregnant. Robin Griffin, a police inspector from Sydney, is called to interview Tui at the police station.
2 "Episode 2" Garth Davis Jane Campion March 18, 2013
Robin encounters two women from Paradise. They tell her that Tui was with them the day before, but was gone in the morning. Robin organizes the local authorities to search for Tui. During her own search, Robin walks into the lake and has a vision of Tui doing the same, clenching her fists in the water.
3 "Episode 3" Garth Davis Jane Campion March 25, 2013
Matt Mitcham goes to Paradise and sits in on a session with GJ, the enigmatic leader of the camp. In a mocking tone, Matt asks the group about the human mind; GJ tells Matt that the human mind schemes. Later, Al meets Matt in the middle of the lake in separate boats.
4 "Episode 4" Jane Campion Jane Campion April 1, 2013
Robin has dinner at Al's modern and clean house. Robin tells Al she thinks Tui's note that said "no one" means there are multiple rapists. Al tells Robin that she is getting too involved in the Tui case due to Robin's history.
5 "Episode 5" Jane Campion Jane Campion April 8, 2013
Robin asks Johnno what he wanted to tell her about the night she was raped. Johnno says on the night of the rape he heard Robin screaming and he peed on himself. He says he found a latch to get out of the dog cage in the back of the truck, but he was too afraid to do anything to stop the men from raping Robin.
6 "Episode 6" Garth Davis Jane Campion April 15, 2013
Robin reveals to Johnno that she plans to make a case against Matt Mitcham so that Tui feels safe enough to come home. Robin refers to a type of "rape" drug that she suspects Matt manufactures. Johnno warns Robin against pursuing this path as Matt's drug business provides much of the town with a livelihood.
7 "Episode 7" Jane Campion Jane Campion April 15, 2013
Robin goes to work in the police station the next day and tells Al what Matt told her. Al says that he thought it was appropriate for Matt to tell Robin himself, and that was the purpose of the earlier boat trip. Robin tells Al she still wants to pursue a case against Matt as she now has people willing to testify.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chris tookey is right about this film, 6 May 2013

I totally agree with Tookey
Loach ignored Labour's 1945-51 government policy of more isolation and not been part of the new EU, ignored how labour's governments of the 1960s and 1970s destroyed industrial relations, thatcher went too far in destroying the trade unions in the 1980s but it was down to bad government from labour
episodes of andrew marr's history of modern britain were much better in giving the full story from 1945 onwards
loach needed a strong producer to give more balance to his critical analysis from 1945 onwards, there was no balance

Ken Loach is an admirable film-maker who's created movies of rare quality and humanity, but he's always been weakest -- and least popular -- when he's allowed his hardline political agenda to dominate.
His new, sternly partisan history lesson about the 1945 Labour government may go down a storm with George Galloway, but it's unlikely to have anyone else queuing round the block.
This is not so much a documentary as a barking mad Marxist fantasy.

Ken Loach's new, sternly partisan history lesson about the 1945 Labour government may go down a storm with George Galloway
It's said that history is written by the victorious, but history in the British cinema continues to be misrepresented by those on the long-disgraced extreme Left.
Taxpayers' and lottery money has been squandered on a film that allows no alternative view to the doctrine that socialism is brilliant, and nationalisation the only efficient and humane way of organising industry.

Hooray, it's off to see the wonderful wizard of Oz again
Sparkling smile brightens up Broken Britain melodrama
Loach uses ultra-conservative film-making methods -- such as talking heads and an all-white cast -- to blame everything bad that's happened since 1979 on Margaret Thatcher. Who knew that she was responsible for the decline of the mining and steel industries around the globe?
The comically parochial, dogmatically blinkered Mr Loach is uninterested in why socialism and state-directed enterprises really failed, and often led to the worst kinds of totalitarian repression.
Most of the domestic policies Ken favours were last presented to the British public in Michael Foot's 1983 general election manifesto, accurately described by former Labour minister Gerald Kaufman as `the longest suicide note in history'.
Thirty years after that electoral catastrophe, the one reason to welcome this film is that it reveals more clearly than anything else the backward-looking, scarily obsessive, extreme political agenda of those who subsidise films in Britain -- and, indeed, those who `criticise' them, for I guarantee that this will receive the most respectful reviews of any release this week.
This will rank among the most deeply depressing movies of 2013, but not for the reasons Ken and his acolytes intend.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, 12 April 2013
I saw the whole series in the usa

its good and new historical information

Oliver Stone should have got someone else to narrate each episodes like matt damon on inside job or samuel west on uk documentaries, stone's narration could get on your nerves after 2 episodes in a row
