4.0 out of 5 stars Short story but full of punch, 6 Jan. 2016

A very short story - introducing the characters of Kate O'Hare and Nick Fox. The short tale still has a good, fast paced interesting plot - involving an art heist

what can I say that hasn't already been written? I read this book every year on the run up to Christmas. I have unfortunately lent out paperback versions and never get them back, so I decided to get the Kindle version, which will be mine for ever :-) A moral yet amusing story from Mr Dickens that is relevant today as when he wrote it

Bought as a present for a friend who had seen this film years ago, but still remembered it and talked about it
She was delighted when she opened the gift and insisted that we watch it together, immediately. I loved the film too. I know it says Dutch import on it, but this made no difference to the product, it was as you would expect when you buy a dvd in the shops.
The film itself is in black and white, it is light hearted and amusing, the characters are excellent. I am a huge fan of the book Pride and Prejudice and love the movie and the BBC series - this is a welcome addition

As a fan of Jilly Cooper and Fiona Walker, I came across this book with great /country involvement in the story, we did not go eventing with the main characters, we didn't even get to prepare the horses for the events.. The main focus of the plot was on Lottie's obsession with raising money to keep the family home going. This was mentioned on every page and focused on constantly whilst other more interesting plot lines were shoved into insignificance. Whilst I knew the characters personalities by the end of the book, I didn't have a clue of the physical descriptions of any of the female characters. The male characters, physical descriptions were given on more than one occasion.
There was nothing in the predictable plot to keep me interested and want me to pick up the book. I would usually read 1 - 2 books per week - this took a month to read as I preferred reading anything else to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read, 7 Dec. 2015

Really enjoyable read. I loved the story - four friends come together for a party. They live in London, Paris , NYC and Scotland, they all lead very different lives, but have stayed friends since childhood. Cassie who lives in Scotland discovers something awful about her husband and leaves, to spend the next year with her 3 friends, to find her real self and what she wants to do with the rest of her life. What a plot? Who of us has dreamed of spending a few months in New York, or Paris or London? She gets a job in each location, stays with her friends there, and not only discovers more about herself, but more about her friends. The characters are believable and enjoyable there was an overall lovely feeling about the book and to be quite honest I did not want to put it down. This is the first book I have read by Karen Swan, I hope the rest are just as good.

I have read all of Jill Mansell's books and always look forward to her latest release. They never disappoint. Great characters, that you feel you would want to be friends with. Beautiful locations, you wish you too could live there. Fantastic plots, things that I would daydream about. Love reading the books and always feel disappointed when I've finished that I have to wait a year for the next one.

Kitty moves from Prestwick to Edinburgh leaving behind a failed romance. She opens a pop up bakery - so far so good, I had high hopes for this little story. However, its when Kitty meets the local males that the plot becomes unbelievable, apparently she is irresistible. I didn't expect the plot to be realistic, but it was forced to go in directions that did not feel natural. It felt like the author was making unbelievable jumps in the plot to keep the size of the book small. I don't want to give the plot away... but you will know when you read it. Overall I think I would have enjoyed the book more if less had happened in it. Too much happened in a short space of time , it felt like the author was trying to cram a full size novel into a short story.

It started off well, and I was very hopeful for an enjoyable read. Who doesn't enjoy a Doris Day film? However, it soon deteriorated into such a far fetched and ridiculous plot that I couldn't wait to finish the book. The female lead is quite strong and feisty, its the male lead that is ridiculous. I certainly will not be recommending this book to any of my friends

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 25 Sept. 2015

I was a bit confused by this book. Having read all the previous Ruth Galloway stories and her character being essential to helping solve the crime in each story. This book differs, Ruth's character is not involved in the crime solving in her archaeologist capacity. In fact it did make me wonder why she was involved in this story at all. Ruth's role in this book is to take part in the making of a tv programme. I just didn't feel this book was up to Elly Griffith's usual standard

I was introduced to Diane Chamberlain's books by a friend, and I am so glad I was. I haven't read one of her books that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. This book, like so many others has an amazing real life location, Topsail Island. I had to check this place out on the internet, it looks very interesting. This book is also set around a family and the consequences that occur to that family through the interactions with others. The story is told through the different voices of the main characters with each chapter being told by a different person, it also moves backwards and forwards in time, so that the back story is fully explained. Its easy to follow as each chapter starts with the characters name and a date if its moved back in time. the story kept me gripped and I literally could not put it down. The main characters are Lauren, the mum, a former alcoholic, her daughter, Maggie 17 and her son Andy, 15 who has FASD. Nothing is quite what you initially think
