Less electronic than the first album and much fewer guest appearances, but as always with a Gruff Rhys album there is melody and wit by the rather large bucket-load. Get it!!!

Really interesting look back at the corrupt and violent nature of guerilla political groups in 1980s Soctland. Personally, I don't find Malcom Fox to be that much of a departure from Rebus (he's effectively Rebus that has given up drink), but he's an engaging character nonetheless. Get it!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funnier than the reviews led everyone to believe, 30 Nov 2009
I haven't seen the DVD, but I was at one of the last live shows on the tour (in Brighton) and I thought it was at times hysterical, though perhaps wasn't as good as The Man Who Thinks He's It tour. On that tour, Partridge was actually disappointing, whereas the other characters were fully honed. On this one the opposite was true - the Partridge segment, by far the longest, was brilliant, while some of the others - Tommy Saxondale in particular - were a bit ragged around the edges. Still, the show in general was, in my book, a success, and I think that some shaky early tour performances led to bad reviews, which stuck around throughout the whole thing. What I would say is that if you are a fan of Steve Coogan get the DVD and decide for yourself, don't be swayed by a few critics who probably had their arms crossed before he even took to the stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best autobiography I have read., 18 Aug 2009
This review is from: Head-On/Repossessed (Paperback)
I read this book as a casual fan of the Teardrop Explodes and Julian Cope's solo work, and was genuinely astonished by how good both books were. I would go as far as to say that, with the two books as a sum, this is the best autobiography I have ever read. Funny, honest, exciting, informative...it's not just everything you would want from someone writing an account of their life, it's actually up there with the best fiction novels. The human side he presents of himself - from getting bullied at school to being driven up the wall by his crackhead neighbours - is even more enjoyable than his recollections of the music scene he was such an important part of. I would go as far as to say that you could read and love this book without knowing anything about Cope's music or the post-punk scene in general.

4.0 out of 5 stars folkin' hell, 15 April 2009
This review is from: Fleet Foxes (Audio CD)
Brilliant album. Takes a couple of listens to really get all the melodies going on, but when you do it just sucks you in and you find yourself singing their songs in your head and actually craving another listen. A classic bunch of misfits singing in the vein of Neil Young, The Beach Boys and some really stunning choral harmonies. Must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Grime is not a crime, brother., 17 Feb 2008
This review is from: Public Warning (Audio CD)
I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from Lady Sov, especially after seeing the video of her collaboration with (spit on the ground!) Preston Ordinary Boys. Then I was astonished when my 53 year old dad told me that he had bought the album. I found this so funny that I put the album on, trying to se what he could see in in, and I was immediately sucked in. Love Me or Hate Me is the most immediately accessible song on the album, it's the one that sticks out on first listen, but on re-listening (is that a word?) you realise just how many gems are packed onto the album. There's even a live verion of the Pistols' track 'Pretty Vacunt', emphasising the diversity of her music, which goes from reggae to pop via hip-hop and punk. This album took an age to come out after she burst onto the scene, let's just hope The Tallest Midget in the Game brings us another classic soon.
