2.0 out of 5 stars Too tricky to apply, 10 Feb 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This Marware screen protection kit includes two screen protectors so although I haven't applied any screen protectors before I thought it would be okay, as I had two goes here. Unfortunately with the first one, as I used the applicator to remove the air bubbles it scratched the protector rendering it useless. I tried again and had it almost perfect, then when I went to remove the front of the protective clear plastic, it also removed the screen protector. I tried again with the same sheet but I couldn't remove all the air bubbles so have thrown the whole kit out. I am sure some people will manage to affix it correctly though there will be others, like me, who can't. It is a very pricey kit to only have some chance of success. I have never used screen protection for my phones and tablets before and have never needed to - I won't be starting now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very durable, 10 Feb 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This Marware cover for the Kindle Fire HD is strong and hard-wearing with an elastic strap to keep the cover firmly closed. The cover features a soft felt-like material inside the lid to protect the Kindle's screen. The lid also folds back to enable the user to stand the kindle up, to watch films, for example. Whilst this cover certainly functions well, it is not as aesthetically pleasing as many of the other covers available so this is worth taking into account when making your purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy, 23 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This Travelo Pure Essentials Refill Perfume Spray is a convenient way to carry around your favourite perfume. To fill simply take the top of the spray perfume to expose the pipe and fit the bottom of the Travalo onto it and pump up and down a couple of times so the perfume quickly works its way up the bottle. As it is made of plastic it is safe to put in your handbag, however because of this it isn't the most attractive design. Still it is ideal for perfume on the move and the clear case means you can always see when you need to top it up.

Gillette Venus & Olay Razor with Shower Holder

4.0 out of 5 stars Silky smooth shave, 20 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This new Venus razor combines the best Gillette five-blade razor with 2 Olay moisture bars above and below the blades. This ensures a close, smooth and silky result which helps reduce the dry skin that shaving often leaves. Because of the moisture bars, the head of the razor is larger than usual but it removes the need for any shaving foam or lather. The razor comes with a stand to attach inside the shower to ensure that water doesn't fall onto the Olay strips when not in use. Whilst the Gillette Venus & Olay Blades--Pack of 6 are expensive, I will continue to buy these as the results are so good and it erases the need for shaving cream. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Friendship, 19 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Nicknamed the 'Supremes,' Odette, Clarice and Barbara Jean have been best friends since their teenage years. Despite their closeness and their constant gossip at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat, there are still secrets that they have never shared. For the past year Odette has been seeing ghosts, for their entire marriage Clarice's husband Richmond has been seeing other women and since her son's death, Barbara Jean has been drowning her sorrows with alcohol. When Odette is diagnosed with cancer, it's time for the three friends to open up and face their future.

'The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat,' has been likened to The Help and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café which is what drew me to this book. Whilst I think the later is correct, there aren't really any similarities to The Help, except that it is set in a black community in the 1960's. Nevertheless, I would recommend this book if you have enjoyed either of these books /films.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative, 6 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
"What is Contemporary Art? A Children's Guide," is a colourful and high quality book introducing children to all kinds of modern art. Each double page spread features a different theme or material with usually 2-3 large pictures and the information in easily digestible paragraphs. From using splashes of colour to sparkles and chocolate, light sculptures to a table made of gold to different interpretations of playing games and bedtime; this is a great introduction for those intrigued by contemporary art.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be so much better, 4 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
"Top 10 World," is split into four main sections, Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the rest of the World. Within each section there are double page spreads dedicated to a specific county, city or region such as Cambodia, Copenhagen or California Wine Country. For each area there are three top 10 lists - a main list of places with some small, not particularly inspiring pictures, then two smaller lists (usually a top 10 moments in history plus another which is more specific to that place e.g. for Amsterdam it includes the top 10 canals and waterways). There are also feature pages, interspersed throughout, for the best attractions overall in specific categories such as natural wonders or festivals and parties.

This Dorling Kindersley publication tries to achieve too much so it actually doesn't really accomplish anything, too much is crammed into each section so unless you have been to the place mentioned you might not really learn anything about it. It is very repetitive, particularly in the over-long Europe section as there are museums and galleries galore and on some pages only around half the places mentioned have an accompanying picture. It perhaps would have been better to have all the places listed alphabetically to provide variety, again particularly to break up the Europe section. Overall, it is a pretty dry and not overly inspiring travel book so instead I would recommend the Lonely Planet world book for larger, more inspiring photographs and a more even spread of information.

Your Sister's Sister [DVD]
Your Sister's Sister [DVD]
Dvd ~ Emily Blunt

3.0 out of 5 stars Family Melodrama, 4 Jan 2013
This review is from: Your Sister's Sister [DVD] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Following the death of his brother, Jack (Mark Duplass) escapes to a secluded island holiday home belonging to his best friend Iris (Emily Blunt) to spend some time alone. However, Iris' sister Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt) is already staying at the house recovering from a recent break-up. After a drunken encounter, Iris turns up and all three try to keep their secrets and emotions under wraps during a dialogue heavy drama.

The main problem with this film, for me, is Emily Blunt. From her British accent which is at odds with her sister's voice and setting, to her repetitive improvisation, her character as well as the far-fetched ending make this film too unbelievable and whilst it isn't a terrible film, I wouldn't recommend it either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for crafty kids, 1 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
There are often pirate activities in children's art books but it is nice to see a whole book dedicated solely on pirates. Each full colour double page is used for each craft: Captain Jack's Pirate Hat, 'Eye-spy' Spyglass, Pirate Outfit, Hardtack Biscuits, Pirate Treasure Chest, Treasure Map Game, Deep-sea Octopus, A Motley Crew (finger puppets), A Ghostly Pirate Ship, The Captain's Parrot, Into the Deep (underwater picture), Shipwreck in the Ocean, and A Pirate Compass. Each page is clearly laid out with list of equipment and then a step by step guide with pictures for each instruction.

The crafts are suitable for children from around age 5-8 though close adult supervision is needed for many of the activities (e.g. using needles, oven.) The majority of the equipment needed is easily obtained, especially if you do a lot of craft projects and there are templates included to trace at the back. The only drawback is the price as I feel it is expensive at the RRP for a 32 page book when many similar crafts can be found online for free. Still, I can't wait to get stuck in to making some of these crafts with my year 3 class.

4.0 out of 5 stars A gripping tale of religion, 1 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Set in a mountainous region of western North Carolina, Wiley Cash tells an extraordinary story of a young autistic boy smothered during a church service in a rural community, which is inspired by real events. The story begins with a horrific incident that a young Adelaide Lyle witnessed many years ago which led her never setting foot inside that church again. The story is then taken to the present day with Jess Hall, a nine-year-old boy who tries to find out why his older brother has been taken to the mysterious church with the covered windows. After the tragic death of Christopher 'Stump' Hall, it is down to the local sheriff, Clem Barefield, to pick up the pieces, whilst still dealing with his own past.

'A Land More Kind Than Home,' is well paced from the opening chapter as the three very different narrators take it in turns to add more to the story. I particularly liked the characters of Adelaide, a childless woman who teaches Sunday school and Jess, the confused child whose life has been turned upside down. I found the ending to be a little far-fetched and somewhat preachy and thus I have deducted a star. However, I would recommend this book and will look out for more books from Cash in future.
