I was involved in the original 1972 production and was thrilled to find a recording on Amazon. It is a masterpiece even if it is 'derivative' and 'eclectic.'

A very mediocre recording that has nothing to write home about in it; she sounds feeble and the recording quality is poor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two intrepid women - photographer and cinematographer, 9 May 2014

What is so special about this book is that it is a personal account of a wildlife research project by two women who work well together. There is humour as well as serious narrative and we are swept along by the events that overtake their project. Argentina and the UK are about to go to war but Cindy and Annie need to complete their shoot. The tension of current events is interwoven with the intricacies of completing a difficult natural history film project for Anglia TV and the women get through the ordeal with courage and tenacity. A great read -- with beautiful pictures by Annie Price a book to keep forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Grandparent's Survival Guide to Child-Care, 21 July 2013
This book is a revelation even if one does not (yet) have grandchildren. Three of my grandparents had died before I was born and when the only surviving one (my father's mum) came to stay World War III broke out because they disagreed on everything my mother was doing in our upbringing ! I do remember Grandmom being a lifetime devotee of the radio and TV nutrition guru Carlton Fredericks and urging me to eat cottage cheese 'for the bones' and grapes for 'Ruten.' I never had the full 'grandparent experience' but this book offers every imaginable aspect of grandparenting with clarity and humour. The serious pointers are vital too: 'never wait for the parents to come home' if you suspect the child has meningitis. My favourite section is about food. One fascinating piece of information concerns honey; in their first year babies do not carry the antibodies to botulism, the spores of which can be found in honey. Children tend to obesity who are doted upon by grandparents. I grew up in a large Jewish family and 'you should EAT!' was a mantra one had to OBEY and the food was so wonderful it was impossible to abstain. My late mother had had her gall bladder removed in her 30s so she was very careful with cooking for all of us; fat and fried was out of the question and that was a good thing. This book offers valuable guidance on keeping children healthy from babyhood when being looked after by granny whatever one's background. I do think mealtimes with family, which are compulsory in Jewish households, are an excellent grounding for a stable adulthood but the book wisely suggests that excessive sugars, fats and salt do lead to adult illnesses and dental problems. We live in a multicultural world now, and I am glad the authors offer this observation: Talk to the child 'about "olden times" when you were young, and how things are done differently in other countries.' There is even a recipe for playdough, which I am sure connects all little people whatever their religion or nationality! A delightful book even if one has no grandchildren but if one looks after nieces and nephews or godchildren. Highly recommended.

Isn't it ridiculous that one has to go to Amazon to buy sourdough pretzels when they could easily be made available in UK supermarkets? And have you ever tried to explain to a UK supermarket employee what a pretzel is, let alone what a sourdough pretzel is? But thank you Amazon for making these delicious, low-fat, no cholesterol pretzels available to us who grew up eating them in the USA.
