5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game and no securom!, 21 Nov 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Left 4 Dead (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
For anyone looking to experience "28 days later" in a game, this is for you. Zombie hordes, creepy deserted locations and 4 people who need to make it out alive. The game is created by valve, the folks who brought you Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Half Life and Portal....so you know this is going to be a quality title and they don't disappoint.

After finishing the single player campaigns, online multiplayer will keep you coming back for more as you and three friends (or three random people) fight your way through different maps. It is a barrel of laughs and makes you play as a team..because alone you will not be able to survive and will be ripped up by some zombie.

Go ahead and buy this one, you won't regret it.

This game uses the "steam" system to deliver and control who can play this game- basically what this means is that you will have to install the steam software, which acts as a game delivery mechanism, and will also conviniently update your game with all the latest updates as they come out automatically. It also allows you to keep track of your friends, chat to them and find them when they are in game via the steam community and save your configs/savegames to the steam cloud in order to access them anywhere.

Some people say steam is DRM, but it is the good kind of DRM. There are no install limits, steam doesn't probe your system like securom or starforce and it does not complain when you use virtual drives or software like process explorer. You can download steam and install your game on as many systems as you like, and all you have to do in order to be able to play on any of those systems is login with your username and password. No hassle, no fuss....(you will require an internet connection for the first time, but after this you can opt to play the game in "offline mode" if you do not have an active connection (Unlike securom protected titles which limit your activations and require a working internet connection at all times)....developers have to protect their works, and steam is an example to the industry of how it should be done, with minimum fuss for the user!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible game, and terrible DRM- Don't waste your money., 8 Nov 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Far Cry 2 (PC) (Video Game)
Ubisoft first lost me with their desicion to join EA on robbing us of our legal right to own the game we purchased, by introducing the securom copy protection rootkit which only allows a limited number of activations (if you use them up, then you have to beg EA/ubisoft for a new activation, and be treated like a pirate until you can waste time sending them proofs of purchase and the like, and even then there is no guarantee they will give you a new activation). This is NOT the way to treat your customers and a very big reason why I did not buy this game.

Now, onto the game, which I played enough to get a sense of it at a friends house.

1) Gameplay is highly repetetive and boring.

Missions are something like "Drive here, kill this person and pick up this object", or "Follow marker to find diamond" or "Blow up truck". There is no variation or any kind of imagination with the missions. The most boring game ever and nothing like the original Far Cry.

2) The AI is completely the same and has no intelligence.

You will end up driving through the savannah a lot, and pass through the same checkpoints many times. Each time you pass a checkpoint (usuaully twice during a mission), there will be the same mercs manning the CP even if you killed them all on the way there. How they usually fight is, get in a jeep, chase you and spray you with gunfire. Ofcourse, each time all that is needed is for you to step out of your vehicle and throw a grenade at the jeep which will blow up. Blowing up the same checkpoint 100 times is not my idea of a good game.

3) The controls are horrible.

This isn't your typical FPS, with no way to "look" around corners or duck behind cover effectively or prone, which leaves you to run through a hail of bullets like a headless chicken most times.

4) Story line is uninteresting and doesn't give you any reason to play

The game was so hyped by the media, but really FAILS to live up to any of the expectations that were promised by the developers. I wouldn't think for one second to buy this game, definitely NOT recommended. Boycott all SECUROM titles and forget about Far Cry 2 because it is positively awful!

This review is from: Crysis Warhead (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
The game itself is nothing special. Combined with ridiculous DRM that takes away all of your rights as a purchaser of a LEGAL and LICENCSED game, this is just a no sell.

Boycott EA and vote with your wallets. DRM is NOT what consumers want and I will certainly NOT be buying this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boycott EA- DRM treating customers like criminals..you don't own what you paid for!, 18 Sep 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spore (Mac/PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
EA has to understand that crippling licensed copies with stupid licensing that means you can only activate/reinstall the game 3 times before it refuses to work is not the way to treat it's customers. Customers can show this to EA by complaining and voting with their wallets. Dont let them get away with daylight robbery- Boycott EA and dracionan DRM restrictions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the cheapest genuine 4gig MS/duo around!, 13 July 2008
Excellent little card, comes with a five year warranty from SanDisk. Using it in my Sony CyberShot digital camera and it works a treat!

Buy only from Amazon, as most of the marketplace ones are fake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kaspersky IS- simply the best!, 4 July 2008
I own Kaspersky. I install it on every PC that I repair and it protects all of my home computers.

Why?

Because it is the best internet security suite on the market. Novice users can install it without fear, as the program defaults into an "auto mode" that will decide all the tricky questions itself, whereas power users can easily take full control of the suite and it's advanced detection techniques.

Version 2009 has a HIPS system (not the type that you shake at a party), but this HIPS system controls the applications on your computer and can intelligently decide what "safe" programs are (like microsoft word and others) and what "dangerous" programs are, and make sure that they do not have a chance to damage your computer. Virtual keyboard is useful for typing in passwords and usernames into bank logins to minimise the risk of keyloggers and antispam is accurate and has regular updates, like the virus signatures.

The scans are fast, the support is good, the detection rates are the best in it's class.

Top class product, wouldn't use anything else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent USB stick, 4 July 2008
Pros:

Tiny, feels solid (metal and a rubbery "skin" for protection)

Had a 2GB version before, both live up to expectations...fast and durable.

As stated by previous reviewer, the cap doesn't fit onto the backend and if you are forgetful it may get lost.

Formatted capacity according to windows is 7.47GB, which is to be expected with any drive as some amount of space is lost during the formatting process, but be aware of this fact when buying. You do not get to use the full 8GB of space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Orange box- deal of the century!, 3 Feb 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The Orange Box is packed full of excellent games- and at around £25, its a steal!

I highly recommend both Portal and Team Fortress 2. TF2 is brilliant in multiplayer mode and will offer hours of madness...you will probably end up pressing your "e" button quite a lot, even out of the game after playing this for a while (TF2 players will know what I mean) :)

There are a lot of decent servers out there to play on, my favourite being INX-gaming public TF2.

The graphics are really nice without being too demanding (I play at 1280x1024 on a x1950pro 256MB card, with highest settings and maximum AA and AF, all with a stable FPS of around 60)

Overall 10/10. You will not regret buying the Orange Box!

5.0 out of 5 stars This has got to be one of the best games EVER, 5 Jun 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I was introduced to far cry through one of my friends at a LAN party, and from that moment, I was astonished by Far Cry. The multiplayer is BRILLIANT, AI is not completely sutpid, and actually quite advanced, and the graphics (if your machine supports HDR and has a good graphics card) are ASTONISHING. It is really fun to play and you wont get bored of it any time soon. And at 7 quid, there is no excuse not to get this game. 10/10 Well worth the money!
