5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh brush with my teeth, 4 July 2013

Quite brilliant. Good to use. Why didn't I buy one when everyone else did? I'll be getting one of those mobile phones yet!

4.0 out of 5 stars Could be about many cities of the day, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Interesting enough, but it portrays many things which were very much more universal as fairly specific to the east end of London. Anyone familiar with oral social history will not find much new here, I suspect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what it says on the can, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Exhaustive on motive power but much weaker on general shots and written detail of railway working and dock locations. This may be largely due to available photographic and other archival material; but if this is the case, the title should reflect more accurately the balance of the book's content.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important contribution to London's railway history, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For anyone interested in the railway history of the less glamorous side of London, this book is essential reading and well-illustrated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dr.John with authority, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Locked Down (Audio CD)
This is Dr.John close to his best, with an excellent band. A lot less meandering than he can be, these tracks have the stamp of New Orleans authority.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sense of arrival, 12 Feb 2012
This review is from: Ray of Light (Audio CD)
Madonna has been in quite a few musical (and other)places in her life. This recording sounds assured, yet less assertive and mannered than some of her work. There is a sense that she has arrived somewhere still thrilling, but more comfortable and self-forgetful than before. Worth a good listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob hits the mark again, 12 Feb 2012
Bob Essery never fails to inform accurately, making available facts and important perceptions which for the most part are now lost with the demise of traditional steam railway operation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blues without frills, 12 Feb 2012
Seasick Steve has the skill and imagination to perform a version of the blues that has powerful echoes of the primitive and the rural. There are few white musicians who can achieve this and Steve does, with considerable flair. The danger is that he sells the primitive a little too forcefully: his appeal is also his potential weakness.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Blues Machine, 6 Nov 2010
This review is from: Hoodoo Man Blues (Audio CD)
With the breathtaking assistance of the bassplayer and drummer, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy play the blues so that you feel you are right inside the engine of a motor bike. This works amazingly well for one album, but could never last as a continuing performance style. Worth having; brilliant in its own way; never to be copied or tried again. Worth having as stunning one-off!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a performer I missed originally, 2 Nov 2010
This review is from: Bad News Is Coming (Audio CD)
Very tight, accomplished and assured blues, with a good voice at the front and striking instrumental interplay. If you love the blues you should buy this CD. I don't know how I missed this first time round!
