4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story - shame about typos!, 2 Jun. 2011
I have the newest edition of the book with the HBO series cover. The story is wonderful, absolutely gripping with fantastic characters. Lots of intrigue and some stunning moments which make you gasp out loud. Unfortunately in this edition there are numerous typos which really detract from the story and make you laugh and be annoyed in equal measure. The publishers should not let this happen!

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not date that well, 17 Mar. 2008
Note: I have not yet played COD 4!

I've been playing this after getting it at the end of last week because I thought I'd take advantage of this game being priced at the budget end for ps3 games (good to see prices falling). First point then, the price represents good value at 20 even if the game is not outstanding.

After playing UT3 for a few weeks this naturally felt slow and after playing uncharted i felt slightly miffed at the half-baked regenerative health system and complete lack of cover. When in a fight with the chimera you have to resort to time crisis duck and shoot tactics or just get in their faces and strafe round them. It's pretty annoying to do the latter and then get battered by another 5 or 6 hidden round the corner. the game seems very gung ho but you need an element of stealth and that is frustrating in a FPS game.

Otherwise, if you can get past some relatively minor niggles the game plays well and the chimera are easy to hate which makes it satisfying to blow them away.

Overall, good value for money but bear in mind this game is roughly 7/10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun but no split screen!, 10 Mar. 2008
This review is from: MotorStorm (PS3) (Video Game)
I bought this game recently and found myself playing it for hours when I got home. The over the top crashes, vehicle variety and constant challenge are highlights of this game. The graphics are very good and the soundtrack reflects the essence of the game (slightly frantic and loud).

However, it is disappointing not to have a split screen mode. It would be great to play with a mate in the same room on this game (massive crashes are conducive to multiplayer in the room action). In addition, loading times are a bit crazy particularly on vehicle select screens.

Overall, very good and great to pick up and play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Game, 7 Mar. 2008
I'm new to the Unreal Tournament series of games having never really got on with FPS games on PC so I am over the moon with how good UT3 is for the PS3.

The one player campaign is ok but after a few missions in I gave up and jumped online. First, getting into an online game is incredibly easy and I have never waited more than a minute. Second, the online games are intense and have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

Naturally, it is an incredibly high standard online so I'm still getting whooped but it still doesn't stop me from playing for hours.

Overall, absolutely great but only buy it if you have your PS3 online.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not good., 7 Mar. 2008
This review is from: SEGA Rally (PS3) (Video Game)
Initially this is a very enjoyable game with excellent graphics and decent cars. The tracks are challenging and the deformation technology adds variety (and really shows off the power of the PS3).

However, while the difficulty level in the early stages is ok, it completely ramps up as you go along (particulary after finishing the premier championship) and as such requires the patience of a saint to persevere.

The main attraction of Sega Rally is flooring it and sliding round corners but the difficulty level punishes messing up one corner and condemns you to slugging it out for 3rd or 4th.

If you fancy a challenge buy it for the championship mode but it still is good for a quick pick up and play blast around a few cool tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but several minor drawbacks, 6 Mar. 2008
I have just completed the game (took 11 hours) so not bad on time.

Pros: AMAZING graphics; fun firefights and a range of cool weapons; decent story; nice mix of platforming and fighting; regenerative health system; reward and treasure system adds to variety; and never get lost because game set out in a linear pattern.

Cons: Occasionally frustrating platform element; enemies can be pretty tough to kill; plot takes a rather odd turn towards the end and is not really in keeping with 'Indiana Jones' style expectations; treasure can be well hidden and basically impossible to find; can only have one side arm and one other weapon equipped; and the two main elements of the game (platform and fighting) never really coincide.

Overall though it is wonderful game with only a few niggles but the graphics and the gameplay will put a smile on your face. Definitely buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Progress and change for PUTS is a beautiful thing, 19 April 2006
This review is from: Stepfather (Audio CD)
Not just more of the same from PUTS on Stepfather, as this album is certainly different from the highly regarded O.S.T. Different in this context certainly does not mean worse or disappointing. The People have kept the fans waiting a long time for this and no-one should feel let-down by their Stepfather. It's funkier than anything brought out before and the drums hit you hard!
