5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Guilde to Toulouse CIty, 1 Jun 2010
Good little guide, much "insider" information like the growing attractions of the Left Bank of the Garonne.
I particularly liked the information on Graffiti art and the clear,easy-on-the-eye maps included.

This review is from: Cesar (Hardcover)
Though an old play it is still famous and well-loved in France, and rightly so. It's an age-old story about a
fastidious dad and his sensation-seeking son;, old values versus the new: responsibility set against self-fulfilment
and the old chestnut: the young girl left in the lurch. In this instance she makes good. The play is one of a trilogy that really need to be read together: l was left feeling cheered,as the language is so human, humane and
the development of the theme is so sure and pure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Michelin London Guide, 8 Oct 2009
The ultimate guide for the serious traditional tourist. Very clear, easy on the eye; very large so not so suitable
in rain or wind. I use it to preplan my routes as I can easily check whether I need to take the tube or can take
a shortcut. One way routes are shown throughout, and helpful detail re theatre and gallery names.
Superb quality of layout as one would expect; however the paper quickly tears along the creases once in action.
A must for non-Londoners.

Strong on history, including recent history, often in a gossipy style, the antithesis of the usual straight-laced
type of guide. Very enjoyable, very thorough too. Well worth investing in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pippa Funnell: the autobiography, 16 April 2009
I loved this book so much I ordered another one straightaway for my
"horsey" daughter. It brought back vivid memories of horse-trials
watched on TV or reviewed in Horse and Hound.
It's Pippa's amazing honesty and forthrightness that appeals, from her
deep love for her horses to her relationship with William.
I think it would appeal to the younger generation too as a model of
persistence and faith in one's chosen career.
It is one of those rare books I shall treasure always (soppy, but there
you go...)

Was delighted with fit and quality of this very useful mild weather
jacket.I'm petite but the small size does not"drown me", accomodates
layers underneath, looks good on (not too anoracky). Has hood and
sleeve velcro adjusters, will keep me dry in the worst of summer
monsoons which we're told we'll be getting more of!
2 roomy pockets with zips on outside, and a further 2 inner pockets
to keep one's personal belongings safe but readily accessible.
Really good bargain for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vie et Mort de Jeanne D'Arc, 11 Mar 2009
Regine Pernoud was such a good historical writer, fluent, funny, thoroughly
knowledgeable of her period (for her academic era). If you love history,
have huge curiosity about france and her heroes, I can recommend any
of her books, even for relative beginners of french prose and literature
(like me). Her books are hard to get hold of in translation but her
non-academic,almost chatty style, with amusing asides and digressions,is very entertaining to folk reared in more linear, analytic anglo-saxon

Histoire de ma vie: Tome 1
Histoire de ma vie: Tome 1
by George Sand
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Historie de ma vie: Tome 1, 11 Mar 2009
As a novice reader of French literature, I was thrilled to read Sand's
"Un Hiver a Majorque". I loved the immediacy of her writing, her
caustic asides, and her egoism (which I can identify with).
I am saving "Histoire de ma vie" for my next visit to France and can
only hope the disparity twixt Euro and other world currencies eases
soon. I can recommend Sand to any thinking woman with some imagination,
particularly for those who like delving into the past now and again.
