Claypool-Headed supergroup - ITS GOTTA BE GREAT!, 10 Oct. 2004
And boy it is. These players are all seriously talented virtusos with a feel for goove and oddball sensibilities that combine to produce a simply fantastic, funny and downright funky album. From start to finish the loose-feeling jams are each fantastic, carrying a sense of that Primus eclecticism without drawing too much from the unique feel of the musicians. The instrumental tracks are all engaging from start to finish, with Bernie Worrels textured keyboards and Brain's tight, powerhouse drumming linking perfectly with Les' far-out bass style, leaving a solid, quirky soundscape for Buckethead to noodle over to his hearts content. The 'songs'on the album are surprisingly great too, Claypool wrapping his trademark redneck vocals around lyrics written about topics as diverse as Bush's administration, Media domination and people injecting their penises with cocaine. These tracks are all good, but its the instrumental jams that really lift off on this album. I recommend it highly to Primus fans, as well as any fans of jam-based music. Top Notch, all the way.
