Freud is too damned honest and too damned cute!, 17 April 2011
A wonderful selection of Freud's writing with new translations that are truly a relief from the old and flawed Strachey standard edition. The different translators offer many things with each text, depending on how it differs from other translations such as the Strachey (notes included show the travesty of Strachey's translation and omission of important details) edition, or their own explanatory notes, Freud's included, that gives Freud more facets. Also the texts are complete, for the most part i think there is only one excerpt, compared to the Freud reader edited by Peter Gay that is made up of excerpts. Again this is a great place to start with Freud, or a great book to "return to Freud" (Lacan's urgency), to revisit the text with new fresh translations (such as "Negation," "Beyond the Pleasure Principle," and "On the Introduction of Narcissism" incorrectly translated as "On Narcissism: an introduction"). The only thing that is not included in all the Penguin Freud is no index, but apart from that a succinct compilation.
