Judge for what it is, 9 Oct 2006
Unfortunately I cannot put no stars at all.
First of all, I heard that if you watch Hostel as a gore/horror film with no story line, then you will appreciate it for what it is. I did not.
I bought it, expecting what is says on the tin- "Sickening, disgusting etc." Possibly a bit of Quentin's torture and Eli Roth's gore.....
For a 90 min (approx) film, the first half is simply sex (probably to boost it to an 18 rating as the supposed 'gore/violence' would make it only a 15 at most) and the last half hourish is simply not even slightly disgusting. I saw nothing I hadn't seen done better before in old horror movies. A huge let down for a fan of violence and horror in films such as me.
I wont judge it on the lack of storyline as I didn't expect it to have one (and I was right) but even the audiences it was made for (lovers of bloody violence) will hate it.
An awful, awful film and such a dissappointment after the brilliant Cabin Fever, also by Eli Roth.
STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPLETE WASTE OF CELLULOID, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO REDEEMING FEATURES.
I would rather die slowly than watch this again.
