Really good strong memorable songs played brilliantly by an vastly underrated band. Highly recommended! Featured Martin Quittenton who left to write songs such as Maggie May with Rod Stewart.

Well balanced politically aware Russian WW2 film with good acting, characterisation and a good story too. The sets, uniforms and weapons all seem correct and the battle/skirmish/fighting scenes are very well done. Basically the Soviet blue capped NKVD vs escaped prisoners from a Russian penal camp, who also get hunted by a special ops Luftwaffe paratroop company (these Germans are well portrayed as soldiers doing their job). The film shows the brutality of war and the horror for the local innocent villagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Russian WW2 film so far, 2 May 2014

For some time the cover had put me off, but as it's cheap to buy I gave it a go and am not disappointed. The acting and filming seem very good to me, with great battle scenes in the forests and Russian steppes that don't look like CGI. The attention to detail of German and Russian uniforms and equipment is really impressive. In political terms it's well balanced, with criticism of the NKVD as well as the SS & Gestapo, as it explains the motives behind their actions in understandable ways (in view of and considering the hostilities between the occupying forces, collaborators and the partisans). The characters are believable and not one dimensioned and show the good and bad in both sides. Some reviews have said there are two many romantic love scenes but I don't agree, as there are plenty of action scenes: battles, chases, prison camp brutalities etc etc. It's a good story too and I'm not giving anything away (as it says on the DVD cover) that it's about a shot down Russian bomber pilot trying to escape from the local Nazi occupied area.

Emotional, thoughtful and accurate war film. Great balance of action and non action. Uniforms and battle scenes are fantastic. The story starts in the Far East, moves to WW2 Russia and eventually on to D Day Normandy. If it's CGI, it's brilliantly filmed all the same, but I'm sure many of the effects are real. The scenery is wonderful.

This volume is a collection of brand new poems that have been inspired by this country's unfolding and often contradictory seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. This anthology features the offerings of four very different poets, who each view the rich and diverse tapestry of our seasons through their own minds' eyes. There are elements of mystery and many ideas to reflect upon, as well as the classic imagery devices of metaphor, simile and personification. Readers of all ages should find something to enjoy within these pages. With regard to possible classroom study, it is suggested that these poems will be useful for students of (KS2) upper junior age range right through to (KS3) early teenage years scholars. Teachers who buy (a minimum of 6 copies) and wish to use this book to enhance their students' appreciation and interpretation of poetry may ask to be sent free activity sheets for use in conjunction with the reading and study of this book's poems, from the book's author by emailing RBlackham@aol.com Available from 1st November 2013.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yes I'm afraid this is so bad., 25 Aug 2013
This review is from: Battle Over Normandy [DVD] (DVD)
I have bought many Second World War films (mainly those made in the last 20 years) and it's true: this is probably the worst film ever made. The acting and direction are truly appalling. The hero's nurse girlfriend has a mini skirt and a ridiculously large mouth (exaggerated with lipstick I expect). From this film I didn't realise how few soldiers took part in D-Day June 1944 - in this film about 20 Americans and maybe 20 German in total - rather like a pathetic re-enactment with too few people. The DVD cover is very misleading to say the least.
