Hendrix, well what more can be said that has not already been said!! He is the most inventive and revolutionary guitarists if not musician of the modern era, and this is probably his best statement. Jimi here blows my mind, everytime i listen, be it the first of 100th time of listening. This album was Hendrix's project, he spent two years in new york, writing, and putting down guitar dubb after guitar dubb but man does it sound good. With clasics such as Crosstown Traffic, just some pure rock riffery, edging on funk, All along the watchtower, and Voodoo Chile(Slight Return), both songs with arguably the best solos that he has done. All along the watchtower solo that sounds like running water, but going in all different directions at the same time, and Voodo Chile( Slight Return) is just pure souring, rising, climaxing stuff that sounds like a jet plane zooiming round your head. He has some chilled stuff too, like 1983, my favourite on the album, with some inspiring lyrics, talking of the 'last day on dry land', with some brilliant solos varying from slow melodic lines, to fast licks with hands everywhere. Also some great drum playing by Mitch Michell. Rainy Day Dream away starts with saxaphone and guitar talking to each other. (Call and Resonse) and you know the rest. Buy this album it is one of his bis bests, and one of the best. hear his guitar, 'like a humming bird that hummed so lound, you think you gonna lose your mind' (Voodoo Chile Blues).

5.0 out of 5 stars Riffs that blow your freaky mind, 11 Jan 2004
This review is from: Axis: Bold As Love (Audio CD)
I bought this album in the christmas. And i immediately fell in love with it. I am a dedicated Hendrix fan, even at the ripe old age of 16 and if you are a boy of my age do not write off this music as 'stuff my dad listens to' because in fact you will find that this is some of the best music of the last century. If you are a guitarist like me, you will admire this playing. This album has some of the best riffs of the time, even though they are not too well known, Spanish Castle Magic, one of the best on the album, could be passed as a modern retro-rocker tune. It has enormous power. 'you got me floatin' ' is another of those brilliant riffs that you, guitarist or not will long to play. this album is a striking and frightening cosmic display of awesome composition that cannot afford to be missed by any age or era of people.
