2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this bag., 8 Mar. 2016

This is a nice size, but the lining has lots of seams so spillages are hard to clean up completely. The bag has also started to leak through the fabric and has developed a nasty smell so I will be throwing it out very soon. I will not be buying another one without checking the lining.

3.0 out of 5 stars Money-Making Exercise?, 12 Dec. 2011

I had not read the books before seeing the films, but this struck me as having been stretched a bit to fit into two films. Having now seen the second part, it would seem to be rather too long as one children's film, but a bit too short for two. Still, it was well done all round if a bit tedious at times, owing to the "stretching" effect.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Buy, 22 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this after seeing one of the tv programmes. I have tried the Curried Goat (tastes similar to mutton), the pepperpot stew (very economical), Shar's Coleslaw (healthy) and the Carrot cake (more than respectable despite my lack of baking skills). I reckon that the Spiller's dumplings for the Pepperpot would have been better with self-raising flour, but these receipes will definitely be on the menu regularly, albeit with reduced chilli.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Translation in English, 29 Sept. 2010
I could not fault this translation, it is absolutely brilliant, and is the best rendering in English I have seen by far. There are many translations of the Aeneid around, and a poor translation can make the difference between finishing the book or giving up after a few pages: it can even seem like a different work entirely. If you want the Aeneid in English, get this one, it is the nearest to experiencing Virgil's verse you will find.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely CD, 26 Nov. 2009

If you like the Concierto de Aranjuez, or anything else you might have heard by Rodrigo, then this is a nice next step of 20th century classical guitar heavily influenced by early music. If it is the Concertino by Bacarisse you are looking for then it is probably the beautiful Romanza you have heard but the rest is well worth discovering.

3.0 out of 5 stars Use with Care, 26 Nov. 2009

This review is from: VTech V.Smile Joystick Blue (Toy)
I would not advise letting a small person set this up on their own, however much they insist they can. We had to buy this product because the joystick that came with the computer became unusable when the connecting plug became damaged after it somehow twisted in its moulded housing and while we were trying to fix it, we managed to bend most of the pins. The problem is that the joystick's plug into the computer is a "DIN" type rather than a simpler design, so it could be a bit more robust and given the cost of the possible repair it was cheaper to buy another one. This proved to be harder than we anticipated as not many places sell the joystick separately from the main unit. Apart from all that, my four year old loves the computer and has had an awful lot of fun with it, so we will be getting a mains adaptor soon! We found that the suggested age range is a bit optimistic, because he really had difficulty using it for a few months, despite being a bright kid. Perhaps the designers assume that the child has been through the baby range first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the faint-hearted!, 26 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think that anyone thinking about buying this would have to be prepared to do a lot of experimenting and a bit of prior reading research if they wanted to try cooking the recipes for real as some idea of the likely differences between 1747 measures and ingredients and those of the modern day is essential. There is a glossary and commentary, which is very useful in the understanding of the recipes, but it still leaves a lot of questions. It would also be helpful if they are competent cooks as adaptation would be needed frequently. Some of her recipes are somewhat fantastical or plain odd and they had obviously not been tested for real, and were pehaps added to pad out the book, but it is still an amazing view into the kitchen of the Georgian middle classes. As a final point, as with Mrs Beeton the later editions are not the same. I was given a reprint of an 1805 edition and while still fascinating it seems to be a totally different book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Generally a very good product, 4 Aug. 2009
We got one for our son a few years ago. (It also comes in khaki and blue, I think). It folds easily, once you get the hang of the twisting motion needed. It is amazingly light (think sort of baby tent) and once in its bag, fitted in wedged under our pushchair. The net sides are supposed to keep insects out, but we didn't need to test that out. It is quick to put up, keeps the little one in, i.e. the zip and fabric are pretty sturdy until little fingers learn how to work the zip. We did have to repair the base of the zip but by that time he was about 18 months old, and, given the chance was rolling around in it like a wheel!

The only minus side is that the mattress is supposed to fit in a washing machine (it doesn't, not unless you have an unusually large one) so to give it a really good wash you have to wash it in the bath and drip-dry it. It doesn't take that long to dry on a hot day, but it means that on a daily basis it is only really spongeable for the duration of the trip, which is not ideal. If There were to be fitted sheets available it would help, but the shape of the base is awkward, as it is all in one piece and they would be difficult to keep in place without lots of ties or something to guard against them coming loose.

All told, though, I would recommend it.The Pop-Up Bubble Microlite Travel Cot in Baby Pink

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth It, 2 Jan. 2009

I got this for my husband who is rather a Tolkien fan, despite my having seen the cinema-release editions several times. I had thought that there would be a few chunks added mainly to satisfy the devotees, but what emerged seems to be the films that Jackson really wanted to make, and then had to chop down to three hours to be more marketable. The additions are usually small and frequent: a few lines or a shot or two and occasionally a whole scene added or reworked, but they are not padding - they do add to the story by adding background history of the characters and explaining aspects of the plot. The stories run better as a result and almost seem like different films altogether and very much improved, you really don't notice the extended length. We haven't looked at the supplementary documentaries yet, but I think they will be as impressive.
