3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing., 6 Aug 2014
It's a fantastic idea, but it's borderline unusable unless you have external audio (I.e. Apart from your television). If you use the television's audio, the delay is so severe that it's impossible to time anything correctly, and in music timing is quite important. Essentially, you have to hit everything early for the game to think its in time, which is both counter intuitive and counter productive.

In an area where all other devices have flawless wifi reception, this device loses connection 15-40 times per hour. So poorly made that in almost impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars i had high expectations from this book. i wasn't disappointed., 29 May 2014

This review is from: Testament: (Hardcover)
When the mortar struck the building that Hondros and Hetherington were in while covering the Syrian conflict, the world lost two of its greatest photographic talents. This book is a fitting tribute to a man that bore witness to the atrocities that we are capable of inflicting on each other so that we could be made aware of them. i'm a professional photographer and don't give praise lightly, but some of the photographs in this book are astonishing: not only that the shutter was open for the exact moment needed (sometimes mere hundredths of a second) but that Hondros was ever in position to take such a shot in the first place.
The father of conflict photojournalism, Robert Capa, once said that "if your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough". Hondros seems to have taken the advice to heart because there is no way that he could have gotten closer, whether metaphorically or literally.

The captions are thoughtful and detailed (though as one other reviewer commented, it would be an easier read for them to be placed next to the relevant photographs rather than in an annexe) as are the anecdotes from friends and colleagues.

If you're interested in conflict photojournalism, i cannot recommend this book highly enough.

have purchased many products from this company - all of them are as good as this. Additionally, every time I have purchased, the product has been dispatched very quickly, has arrived very quickly and has been in perfect condition. I would recommend them to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent value, 28 Jun 2013

Given the price, this kit represents excellent value. while you're getting more than what you pay for, there's a reason that this kit costs as little as it does;

the light stands are quite flimsy
the bag doesn't offer as much isolation inside as you'd hope. you need to be careful to stop things from knocking into each other.
the heads have no protective covers so the fragile bulbs are exposed when stored.
the barn doors were loose and didn't stay where placed.
you need enough room to use them - the minimum power is still quite bright!

all that being said, they are simple to use, light, reliable, and quick to assemble. one of the best value purchases i've ever made. my only regret is that i didn't purchase it sooner.

1.0 out of 5 stars pretty appalling, 4 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
firstly, the product was supposed to be capable of internet browsing. it is not. at all.

secondly, getting this thing to connect to the internet in any form (i.e. for lovefilm or equivalent) is nigh on impossible. i am not an IT specialist but am comfortably IT literate, but every attempt would involve a good 8 hours of trying to connect. problems encountered have included a complete refusal to detect routers that are in range, failure to connect to those routers and a failure to connect through those routers even though other devices are connected.

as such, this is not a "SMART" television at all. i can safely say that i will never own a samsung television again.

1.0 out of 5 stars utterly worthless, 3 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product is beyond a waste of money. I purchased it in a bid to connect my TV to my router (which is a floor up and a room along). This "extender" was unable to connect to the router despite being relatively close to it. my laptop and iPad are able to get excellent connection in this location without having any specifically developed hardware for this purpose. I have also tried connecting to the internet 4 inches away from the router. this also is too far far, it seems. £52 for this is too much, as would 52p be. The software that manages the product is temperamental also, sometimes finding things and sometimes not. after some 8 hours spent setting this item up, i managed to get it to work (though not very well) - for maybe an hour. after that, it stopped recognising any password authentication, and was once again utterly useless. There is not a single thing that this device is able to do at all, let alone doing anything well. I don't think I have ever owned a device that has been less useful than this one - for every hour it works, you must spend at least 8 trying to get it to work.

playing this game is a profoundly frustrating experience.

if it's raining, your WRs fall over on about 1/3 of pass plays. you can expect the WRs to run the wrong route on about 50% of pass plays. there are no circumstances under which your WRs will outrun the CBs - even if they get behind them and have ratings of 99 across the important skills.
your QB will get drilled on every play action pass before he can make a pass regardless of how quickly you make your decision. Your WRs will step out of bounds prior to making a catch even if it's unnecessary for them to do so.
your QB will miss wide open WRs by 20 yards / throw the ball miles out of bounds (no, i'm not playing as Tebow!)on run plays the point of 1st contact will always be 3 or 4 yards in the backfield.
on fumbles, my recovery rate is something like 5%.
it's not that i find the difficulty a problem, it's that the game is made difficult by profoundly poor AI. the mistakes that are being made are not the sorts of things you would expect even a casual fan to make.

the pre and post game cut scenes are all identical (other than a little geographically themed stuff).

basically, there are 2 sentiments that you'll feel when playing this game - bored and annoyed.

this will probably be my last purchase of a madden game until they stop churning out rubbish.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as you'd hope, 26 Jan 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
this book is a useful and effective tool for doing the tasks described to the images provided on the disc (for the most part - there were some instances where no matter how carefully i followed the instructions i did not see the results i needed).

where the book falls down is that while it tells you what to do, it rarely tells you why you are doing it - so you can't perform the tasks on any other images. this limits its usefulness, as i imagine that most people that purchase it hope to use it on images other than the ones on the accompanying disc. when you try to apply the "skills" you have learned to other images, you may well find it a profoundly frustrating and futile experience.
it also has a tendency to explain things in a way that don't make much sense to the inexperienced used - for example, when it explains the difference between channels, channel masks, layer mask, vector masks and clipping masks. after having read the paragraph a good thirty times, i was if anything less clear on the distinction.

this may well be the best book available on the topic but it falls short of what you would hope from the makers of the program.
