The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle
The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle
by Kirsty Wark
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 11.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A deeply satisfying novel., 26 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A story about love and lost opportunities. It slowly draws you in to the characters lives. Martha's story highlighting the differences with Elizabeth's generation, who kept their secrets, usually taking them to the grave. Sadly Elizabeth didn't have the ability to grab her second chance at happiness, when it came. Elizabeth is a strong character, her secret well hidden and I liked her more and more as the story deepened. The household chores forgotten while I finished the book, leaving me with a lump in my throat.

A novel I highly recomend. Kirsty Wark is gifted at descriptive writing with a strong love of Arran that leaves the reader wanting to visit the island.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensitive story., 21 April 2014

An intriguing letter grabs your attention and draws you in. A sensual story of love, loss and how a lack of understadning and the written word can change everything. I don't want to spoil the book for other readers, other than to say it is a story you will remember long after closing the book.

The Beast in the Red Forest (Inspector Pekkala)
The Beast in the Red Forest (Inspector Pekkala)
by Sam Eastland
Edition: Paperback
Price: 9.09

5.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing story, brilliantly told., 21 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have read all the Pekkala books and thoroughly enjoyed them. Sam Eastlands descriptive writing brings the horrors of war torn Russia alive. The author has created an engaging character in Pekkala, so much so it is easy to think he was real. Hopefully the strong realtionship between Pekkala and Major Kirov will survive and there will be further instalments.

The Girl in Berlin
The Girl in Berlin
by Elizabeth Wilson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.39

5.0 out of 5 stars An enthralling read of spies and the cold war., 14 Jan 2014
This review is from: The Girl in Berlin (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. An interesting read in to the time of the cold war and spies. The characters are believable and the author captures those austere years of the early 1950's perfectly. McGovern is a likeable detective. It would be nice to see his character developed further. The ending left you hoping there would be a sequal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A life in SOE remembered., 20 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Noreen Riols has written a highly readable book about her memories of working for SOE. She tells the horrifying truth of the deaths of many brave agents, uncomfortable reading, and not fully told in earlier books. I also liked learning about those difficult years after the war, rarely mentioned in other books. Her description of the memorial to the SOE agents at Beaulieu, and her feelings so eloquently described as she stood there brought a lump to my throat.

I hope young people who read her book, will be inspired to read more about those courageous agents who gave their lives in the fight for peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars An artist for lovers of Smooth Jazz., 4 Oct 2013

This review is from: Silhouette (Audio CD)
Chuck Loeb's music is always melodical and relaxing, I have many of his albums, and this one keeps up the high standard he has developed over the years. If you are a lover of smooth jazz and want it for background music or to sit and listen to, you will not be disappointed. He is an excellent artist to add to your collection.

Price: 23.23

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for a traditional valve amp enthusiast., 4 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book for my husband who wants to make a valve amplifier. He said the book was exactly what he needed and is reading it. He also said the technical drawings were very helpful. So I can only presume it would be helpful to others interested in the same subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars A deeper understanding of Daphne and her forgotten sisters., 26 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is not a dry biography, it reads more like a memoir drawing you in to their personal world. Daphne, her fathers favoured daughter, Jeanne mothers favourite. The parents dismissive treatment of Angela was heartbreaking to such a sensitive soul and had a profound effect on her life, although she was triumphant in the end. The parents smothering hold on them affected their lives before finally becoming the impetus for them to succeed in their chosen fields. Cornwall had a strong hold on them all. I found it interesting to learn the reasons why Daphne wrote her stories. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music to relax the Soul., 22 Aug 2013

Once again I was not disappointed by Keiko Matsui. Although more contemporary than her previous records her music is as always melodic. Her style never fails to relax me and I could listen to her music all day. This time she has Chuck Loeb with her, the brilliant guitarist who now plays with Fourplay. If you love the Smooth Jazz genre, you won't be disappointed by listening to any of Keiko's records.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book won't disappoint., 21 Aug 2013
This review is from: Dreaming Out Loud (Paperback)
A well written story by an author whose characters are believable as are the situations they are put in. She captures the early 1950's exactly, an era so different from today. The book is a good read and one you won't want to put down. I liked it so much I immediately ordered three more of her books from Amazon.
