3.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful present for a fan of Pern, 26 Oct 2003
I received this as a present and it was a brilliant gift. It's not a book to read from cover to cover, but it has loads of interesting things about Pern in, it covers the whole crafthall and hold ethos, - if you are a bit of an anorak (or,umhuh young) it shows all the different shoulder knots used to define the different crafts, it has a military review of dragon flights when fighting thread, recipes for klah and numerous other interesting tidbits re Pern. A lovely present for someone who thinks YOU don't know what Pern is all about!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars a new world?, 26 Oct 2003
This review is from: The Elder Gods (Paperback)
I enjoy the eddings worlds, and bought this one and enjoyed it. I must admit i am partial to books that are in series (once i've found a few characters, i take an interest in how they are getting on over time!) and i look forward to reading the following series. I must admit i wasn't as enthralled with this initial book as i was with the belgariad, mallorean and elenium, but it definately has the eddings humour and some lovely characters, smart humour and as a very different story to those noted above, i found it enjoyable and would recommend it for anyone, whether new to the eddings ot nor.

5.0 out of 5 stars fab new world, 26 Oct 2003
This series of books (along with the mallorean ..and yes there is another 5 in that too!) are wonderfully funny, wonderfully humorous with endearing characters and feel like a family once you've got to know everyone - and as everyone is introduced slowly you suddenly realise you have stumbled (or been recommended!!) upon a rich and vibrant and delightful world. Garion is the lead character, and like other books there is prophecy (which kinda helps everyone work out where they are going) intrigues at palaces, chivalry, knights, a few love interests for most of the main characters - even a dragon! But most of all it's about the will and the word - if you will something (stones livitating, roses out of thin air)and you have the 'knack' you too can save mankind...or in this case, save the entire planet from an interstellar accident that happened a very long time ago.
I loved this series of books and have been rereading them for over 10 years (does that make me sad?). Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars a few short words, 26 Oct 2003
This review is from: The Lovely Bones (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it made me laugh out loud, shake and moan with horror, cry and sniffle and all in one sitting as i couldn't put it down. Not the usual type of book i would read (being a fantasy fanatic) but my friend recommended this to me and so please let me recommend it to you, the synopsis details the salient points above all i would add is that it is a well written novel that keeps you turning over the pages in a desire to find out what happens. I loved it.
