5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any herbal remedy maker, 9 July 2014
James Green is an American herbalist. The book is nicely illustrated by his daughter, and it could easily taken more of her pictures, so perhaps they'll do that next time. Mr Green not only knows his stuff, he also is a really good teacher and has a lovely voice that has a personal touch to it. It's obvious that he wants to empower people to learn and take control, while still providing them with a framework of safety. Am taking this book on holiday as it's definitely a good one to curl up with.
The only thing that I would not follow are the recipes for making creams. If you use only oils in a cream then you don't need to use a preservative, you only need to worry about the possibility of the oils going rancid over time and this can be slowed down by adding vitamin e and rosemary anti-oxidant. If you add water to any preparation however, you are inviting bacteria to grow and you should use a preservative. (There are some on the market that are more friendly than others, some that are approved by Ecocert and are broad spectrum). Even if you keep creams in the fridge, they will start to grow yeast, moulds or fungus, despite you not being able to see them.
Despite that, highly recommended, charming, inspiring book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent dictionary of medicinal plants, 9 July 2014
Bought this second hand because I wasn't sure if it would be what I wanted. A very good reference manual for anyone who wants to start making tinctures and macerate oils. Definitely one you should keep in your library of herbal books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hundred times better than your average tea towel, 9 July 2014
These cloths have been a huge hit. They are a bit bigger than you think, which is a good thing. They absorb a lot of water and they don't leave a mark on the glass or on a pan, which is very useful. Wash and tumble dry very well too - they are as good as new out of the tumble dryer. Use them a lot and they stand up to the wear and tear. Great price too. Recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book to learn about melt and pour soap, 9 July 2014
Kaila Westerman also runs a soap business and a very good blog. This is a very good book for someone who is new to melt and pour and wants to get the procedure right. Some nice pictures and projects. A wee bit dated, but definitely worth it if you are new to the subject and want to get some guidelines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for someone starting out in melt and pour, 9 July 2014
Useful book for some ideas on melt and pour soap. Bought this second hand, so pleased with it at a budget price, not sure I would have liked it at full price as design in soap is a very personal thing... useful and thorough tips on how to get started, what to do and what not to do. Recommended if you are new to this subject.
