2.0 out of 5 stars Morally Disturbing, 22 Mar 2011
This review is from: Ordinary Thunderstorms (Paperback)
Spoiler Alert. The book is fast-paced and fun, but the whole book fell apart for me when the hero casually kills someone who's bothering him near the end of it. After three hundred pages of cheering this hero on as he escapes from people trying to kill him, I was completely turned off when the hero just casually becomes a murderer himself. In real life, it would be terrifying; in this book, it's merely dumb.

1.0 out of 5 stars Antisemitic novel, 4 Jan 2011
This review is from: A Week in December (Paperback)
This is the most anti-Semitic book I've ever read. In Faulk's rich, messy panoply of London characters, there are Christians, Muslims, Jews, blacks, whites - but the Jews stand out as venal and heartless, motivated only by greed. One of its major plot lines involves a secretive Jew who brings about global financial collapse and misery. This is the only book I've read that uses the term "Jewish usurers" in an un-ironic way. If you believe there's a shadowy Jewish cabal that runs the world,as Faulks seems to, then this is the book for you. Otherwise, steer clear!
