Ty the Bull

5.0 out of 5 stars an important read, 19 July 2014
This review is from: Ty the Bull (Kindle Edition)
Although short, Ty the Bull is potent, dealing with the difficult and important subject of child bullying.
It is told from the standpoint of a ten year old boy who is struggling to cope with the recent divorce of his parents and then has the added burden of being bullied at school. Whether real or only his perception, he feels he has no one to turn to.
As he overcomes the adversity the story will make inspiring reading for anyone subject to a similar ordeal but it will also make essential reading for teachers and parents, particularly those going through, or having recently gone through domestic disharmony, to make them more aware of signs of children enduring such problems.
While it may not be the most literate work I’ve read in this genre, it is amongst the most powerful, valuable and accessible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, 18 April 2014

This is a fascinating and well written book. Although very readable in its own right, it makes a perfect companion for the other two books by John and Martha McGinness. It’s the sort of book that’s best not rushed so you can absorb and savour its content.
It deals with psychic readings with a diverse range of famous characters from history and gives very interesting and useful philosophical interpretations of relevance to modern society and everyday living
Although I am not a believer in the underlying concept, I found this book t a valuable and educational read and I’m happy to recommend it to believers and non-believers alike. Everyone can take something from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars valuable preparation, 6 Feb 2014

A delightful account of the author’s journey through this region with lots of advice and good tips about where to stay and what to see, including some amazing photography.

It’s a journey which I knew nothing about and would never have contemplated had I not seen this book.

A valuable preparation for anyone planning a trip in this area, particularly if you’re taking a dog with. And always remember to beware of the crocodiles and cane toads.

5.0 out of 5 stars View of a non- believer, 30 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book was recommended to me and although not a believer I decided to try it. I was not disappointed as it is well written and presented and I was fascinated by the content. While not sufficient to change my lack of belief, I was pleased in the knowledge that it would be useful and comforting to others. It is easy to follow and an ideal guide for those seeking an introduction. My first inclination would have been to rate at 4.5 stars but as fractions are not allowed and on reflection my downgrading from five was no doubt only a result of my own scepticism (which would be subjective and unfair) I have rounded up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable reference, 29 Jan 2014

Crime Plots is the first book I've read in Ryn Shell’s and Rose Blume’s series. This text provides advice and a structure to assist writers looking to produce a book in this genre and has three different sub-genre options. It will prove particularly valuable for would be authors seeking the support of a plan in their early ventures.

Supporting the outline structures, the book gives useful examples of familiar films or books to help a reader assimilate the information and to see how effectively it can be used in practice. In this same context it also gives some delightful tasters of Ryn Shell’s Billabong series.

This is an essential guide to a novice and a very useful support for more experienced writers.

I look forward to checking out some of the other books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is Life after Death?, 19 Jan 2014
This review is from: Road Rash (Kindle Edition)
I wouldn't describe Bonnie Bernard's book `Road Rash' as Heavenly (and certainly not with the style and language of her main protagonist) but it was one Hell of a read, quirky and surreal. A most unusual take on what happens after you die. Although short, it did not lack content and followed the experiences of Wayne Wright who after dying in a road accident faces a range of most unusual characters as he faces judgement and later is called upon to judge.

Legend of the Mist

5.0 out of 5 stars another great read, 22 Nov 2013
Veronica Bale writes historical fiction and has a very distinctive style. Her books are very well researched, and competently written with a very engaging presentation and characters you're compelled to follow.. `Legend of the Mist' lives up to the standard she has set with her Highland Loyalties Trilogy. The storyline is darker and cleverly twists a story within a story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jingle all the way, 16 Nov 2013
This is an attractive book for small children launched with perfect timing for the run up to Christmas. It's an ebook with the same presentation layout as a board book and it has delightful illustrations with alternative `lyrics' you can sing along to `Jingle Bells'. The story line is perfect for the season with Emma riding through the skies on the back of a reindeer on Christmas Eve.

5.0 out of 5 stars clever twists, supplemented by a liberal sprinkling of Scottish humour, 18 Oct 2013
This review is from: A Taste for Malice (Paperback)
An absorbing read, neatly crafted with interwoven story lines, clever twists and supplemented by a liberal sprinkling of Scottish humour. The characters are interesting enough for you to want to know what happens next. I note this is second in a series and it doesn't suffer from not reading the opener first- although it's now on my 'to read' list.
