Prehistoric Life: The Definitive Visual History of Life on Earth
Prehistoric Life: The Definitive Visual History of Life on Earth
by David Burnie
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Prehistoric Life - a never ending fascinating story', 7 Dec 2011
This magnificent book charts life through from the birth of the planet to the present day. Introductory sections briefly cover scientific investigations and dating rocks, earth's origins and it's early history, plate tectonics, climate and the evolution of life. These are followed by sections on the classification of fossils, extinctions and other essentials before launching into wonderful sections on life through the immense periods of time that allowed it to evolve giving rise into so many forms including of course those favourites, the Dinosaurs. It gives 'pictures' of ancient ecosystems and the many life forms that are part of them. Wonderfully illustrated throughout it is accessible to all age groups although for the younger ones an adult is needed both to hold the book and focus at first on things of interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dinosaurs delights!!, 10 April 2011
This review is from: Dinosaur Poems (Paperback)
Never have we had a book that needed to be repeatedly read to our 4 year old grand daughter at least twice every day for a week whilst we were on holiday!!
After a while it was the last one that had to be read first because it caused such hilarity.

3.0 out of 5 stars Egypt rocks!, 13 Sep 2010
A feast of geological detail!! However, a disappointing absence of any synoptic maps, geological or topographic that would enable the reader readily to relate the numerous sites to one another made this a less than user friendly book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fossil mania!, 4 May 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
A very interesting collection of fossils for anyone keen on nature from the past! In some of the fossils there are several of the same so that it is possible to grind one down with emery paper and look at the internal structure with a microscope!

Good value!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Geology for all!!, 4 May 2010
An excellent, comprehensive and very interesting guide to geology for all !!! Unfortunately it does not stress the now generally accepted rule - 'take only photos, leave nothing but footprints'. This is so that others who visit in the future can see fossils and minerals where these are in place in the solid rock outcrop or exposure in a rock face!! Collecting should be only done from the loose rock or scree nearby.
