5.0 out of 5 stars Keen on IQ.. Easy on your pocket, 9 Sept. 2011
I'll write my review in bullet points to save you time reading.

#I use this lens with my 550d along with 15-85mm & the nifty fifty.

# The IQ is on par with the 18-55 is kit lens. AF is very good for a lens at this price.

# build quality and design is great for my use - I don't use it in wet days or dusty Deserts, I value the light weight compact design & reasonable price. I don't want to walk around with a 1000+ £ lens that is heavier than my son.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every thing you need in a DSLR, 27 Aug. 2010
I'm sure that you did read more detailed reviews so ill make it simple. I have owned a 450D, 500D, Nikon D90 and this 550D and have used the 5D II. This is the best in my opinion.

Why?

- Great pictures.
- Light weight.
-Very capable sensor.
-Very reliable unlike Nikon D90.
-450D and 500D had an autofocus issue.

Video is great for professional but not for me. I want an auto focus and a motorised lens. An HD Panasonic camcorder will do just fine

4.0 out of 5 stars From 1 star to 4 stars...Why?, 17 July 2009
I have changed my previous score from 1 star to 4 stars... Why?

At first I was very disappointed with the (F--) error issue which is a wide spread and very disappointing from Nikon. However, I then bought a canon 500D and realized the difference in image quality.

* The D90 is far much sharper even with the kit lens.
* Far better ISO performance.
* Better white balance in higher ISO settings.
* The belt in flash is far better than the 500d which blows subjects
* I can adjust the WB manually unlike the 500d.

Most importantly, the difference in image quality shows in printing even at small size prints. It might be the kit lens of the 500D. However, I have 50 f1.8 prime & the IQ remains below D90 IQ.

For all of these reasons I am considering selling my 500d and buying a D90 again and live with the reliability issues.

Update:
Moreover the 500d does not auto focus correctly. However focusing manually will deliver sharp images from the 50mm but not the kit lens.
