And The Weak Suffer What They Must?: Europe, Austerity and the Threat to Global Stability
by Yanis Varoufakis
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £11.89

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read..., 3 Jun. 2016
Great book. Nice commentary and insight on Europe and its response to the financial crisis in 2008. Would have been nice to learn more of his experience when representing Greece in government. Also relies heavily on a romantic theory of the past, with little guidance to the future to add real credibility to the narrative. Altogether, a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for any map geeks who love London, 9 Dec. 2014
Really nice book. I spotted it on a Sunday afternoon walk along the South Bank, and I just love maps. They have done a really nice job on the presentation. Typically publishers skimp on the finishing touches which can set a book apart, but not on this one, it even has some mylars! Fully worth the £25 RRP and a bargain at the currently advertised £12.50!

Works very well. Feels good in the hand. Release button feels a bit cheap but durable, sure it will last. If you only carry cards, and don't like feeling a wallet in your pocket, this item is for you!

Works well with my digital camera. A little awkward to set up as wouldn't detect network, but a restart fixed that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read, but sensationalist, 25 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's a gung-ho start, you get the feeling the book has been written as a film. It improves as you get further into the book. Somewhat understandable US bias, in that what drives the dollar will impact all, but little Focus on Europe. I did enjoy the read and finished the book, but wouldn't start had I known what it would be like. Delivered on time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, balanced, easy to read - great book., 9 May 2013
It's a really nice book, great layout, nice mix of pictures and text. Almost magazine like in reading style, but by no means a trivial account. Only wish I'd had this book when studying the subject at A Level...anyhow, a couple of decades later, it's a great read. Highly recommend, and great value.

2.0 out of 5 stars White Plastic Not Silver, 9 Aug. 2011
In the photo this kettle looks like it has a silver or brushed metal finish - it doesn't. It looks like a cheap white plastic kettle, but it does boil water.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fails to stick the course, 17 May 2011
It starts really well for two reasons, gripping background to the early history of Microsoft and written by an excellent ghost writer who can really make you turn pages. Sadly after Microsoft (approximately half the book) it turns down hill and all the things about ghost writing come to the surface, for example, on page 305 discussing his funding of Neuroscience:

"In March 2002, I invited 21 scientists, including 4 Nobel laureates, to join me at a 3 day brainstorming session, or charrette. The scientists assembled at the dock in Nassau in the Bahamas and ferried over to our conference center for the weekend, my yacht, Tatoosh, a serene setting for an intensive discussion."

An interesting early insight to his work at Microsoft, but definitely one to read the first half in the bookshop and leave on the shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, Authoritative Reference Book, 7 Feb. 2007
I don't usually post reviews, but felt compelled when I read a review from [...]. I bought this as a Christmas present for my folks, but after reading a few pages I couldn't hand it over. It's a great book with loads of info, on the most interesting places, from the highlands to the borders. Despite being a reference book, it's very readable. A few more pictures wouldn't go a miss, but great value!

Take posts from people living on Uranus with a pinch of salt.
