5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless!, 21 May 2013
This review is from: Lawless [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
What a cracker of a film this is as i wasn't expecting much. But having two of my fave actors (Shia Labeof and Tom Hardy)together in the same film was a selling point for me. It took me back the early "Godfather" films with its gangland style theme. But be IS extremely violent and very bloody to the point of being stomach churning, so if this isn't your thing then do not view!
If you have got the stomach for it then you're in for an absolute treat, brilliant acting from all the stars, even Guy Pierce as a dastardly bad guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars 12 rounds......5 stars!, 4 April 2013
I am a HUGE fan of all things John Cena, whether it be is wrestling techniques, his music or his acting abilities, which could be better improved here, anyway i was amazed to come across this movie as i had no idea it existed! having seen his debut in "The Marine", and the fact that it was directed by Renny "Die Hard 2" Harlin i snapped it up.
If it's big bangs and exposive action sequences you're after then you can do no wrong with this, and if you can overcome John's weak acting abilities then you'll enjoy this. It kind of reminded me of Die Hard 3 but, in my opinion it is much better than that. There are some amazing stunt sequences and having seen the short docs follwing the film it's easy to see why John preferred to do all his own stunts, and it shows. It's no masterpiece but it is a blast from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dredd good!, 26 Mar. 2013
This review is from: Dredd [DVD] (DVD)
Having seen this DVD at a bargain price at my local video store, and ignoring all the negative reviews in various magazines and the like I thought I'd take a chance on it. I'm so glad i did as i found it very enjoyable. There's no boring, drawn out character introductions here, we are thrown straight into the action which pretty much doesn't let up for the next 80 minutes or so, and i was kind of reminded of Paul Verhoevens classic "Robocop" with our hero and his female companion. I was expecting a "mushroom cloud fallout" of an ending and was left somewhat dissapointed by the weakness of it, almost as if the director had gottne bored with it and quickly wrapped things up.
So, is it better than Sly's version from the '90's? Well it is uber violent and extremely gory in keeping with the original comic strips and that is no bad thing. I thoroughly enjoying every minute of it and would reccommend it to my mates.

5.0 out of 5 stars pay the mortgage...or pay the price, 14 Mar. 2013
We all know that Sam Raimi is responsible for the Evil Dead and Spider-man trilogies and after completing Spider he returned to the genre he does best... and what a comeback it is. While the plot is hardly original and there are some silly moments peppered throughout the film Sam has that uncanny ability for making the audience feel at ease one minute...then scaring the hell out of you the next by making use of the dark shadows, eerie creaks and loud bangs.
I for one jumped quite a few times in places and that for me is what a good horror movie should be about.
A welcome return to form then but don't watch it alone....

5.0 out of 5 stars Bondtastic!, 15 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Skyfall [DVD] (DVD)
Quite possibly the best Bond film since Goldeneye, in my opinion. The pre-credit sequence alone is one of the best ever. Great theme tune, stunning locations and set pieces and some great action sequences and witty dialogue make the two and half hours or so running time fly by.
Marginally better than Quantum, Skyfall is a blast from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars the end...?, 31 Dec. 2012
A terrific end to what is, in my opinion the best movie trilogy ever. It did lack the impact of "The Dark Knight" and the brilliance of "Batman Begins" but all in all it's a blast from start to finish tying up loose ends from the previous two films in such an unexpected way by throwing in a great twist in the final half hour.
I really think Batman could have been on screen a lot more during it's lenghty running time, but with so much going on here there is never a dull moment. I will miss the franchise but the pre credit ending has left something to the imagiation.
A good film then, just not at good as the previous two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny!, 31 Dec. 2012
This review is from: Ted: Extended Edition [DVD] (DVD)
Just the thing for these cold, dark winter nights.... a laugh out comedy that might have you seeking medical attention by the end of it. A word of warning though, if you are easily offended by drugs, sex and swearing then stear well clear as this film does set out to shock. I was laughing so much at pretty much all of the movie i had to watch it again straight after.
There isn't a single dull moment in the film, even the narrative is very funny. Obviously i won't divulge any of the plot here, but i can guarantee you will never look at a teddy bear the same way again.
Grab a six pack, sit back and get ready for the funniest film you will ever see.

4.0 out of 5 stars better than expected, 27 Oct. 2012
Ignored at the cinemas, hence the "straight to video" release and just taking the plunge and buying it I thoroughly enjoyed this little hidden gem. Without going into the plot too much three best friends acquire powers that at first, and hilariously they experiment with until the "dark side" rears its ugly head. It's a blast from start to finish, and yes, the "hand held" camera usage might be off putting for some but to me that is what makes this film.
Easly one of the best films, " The Dark Knight Rises" aside of the year. Stuffed with some mind blowing special effects, one in particular involving a common old house spider (!) it's a thoroughly enjoyable movie, perfect for a night in with your mates.

3.0 out of 5 stars stick with the "clash", 25 Oct. 2012
I was expecting this to be slightly better than I thought, in some ways it is but for the life of me I can't understand why a supposed "Greek God" would have a dodgy Australian accent....(are you reading this Sam?)
But having said that the film is a blast from start to finish, some great fight scenes and monsters, although I thought Kronos could have had more screen time after all the hype towards the end of the movie.
However, if you enjoyed "Clash" then chances are you'll enjoy this too, just don't expect it to be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you go down to the woods today......, 6 Oct. 2012
This review is from: The Cabin In The Woods [DVD] (DVD)
Okay, so the title alone suggests that you've seen it all before (The Evil Dead, Cabin Fever) and at certain points in this film you'd be right. But about twenty minutes in the whole thing is turned on its head in an OMG kind of way which will take you by surprise if you're not prepared for it. I won't divulge the plot here but the whole thing left me feeling as though i'd just been slapped across the face.
While not necessarily scary it certainly is a breath of fresh air considering the storyline and there are numerous references to other films thrown in, two of which are blantantly obvious from the opening credits.
I was pleasantly surprised in a wtf kind of way and the best way to enjoy it is to keep an open mind and your wits about you because you will need them... if you've any left that is.
A worthwhile addition to any hardcore horror fans collection.
