3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, informative but unusual prose style, 19 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent characterisation and interpersonal intercourse description. Historically very well researched giving insights into the political and religious thinking and environment of the time . Personally find the prose style clumsy and rather indigestible.

Ian Fleming and SOE's Operation POSTMASTER: The Top Secret Story Behind 007
by Brian Lett
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £16.09

2.0 out of 5 stars Well researched but flawed book, 17 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well researched book on the genesis of, the activity of and the people involved in the SOE in WWII. It is worth reading because of the information supplied and the well recounted and extraordinary exploits of these men. It is severely marred by the attempt to use this material to explain Ian Fleming's use of it to develop the fictional characters in his very successful spy novels. This is exaggerated by the inclusion of these references in the body of the book. It would have been more appropriate and respectful to have concentrated such references to fictional writing in an end piece such as an appendix.

Byzantine Churches and Monasteries of Crete

4.0 out of 5 stars In search of Byzantium in Crete, 31 May 2007
Well written, comprehensive and well illustrated description of many Byzantine sites in Crete. Information appears reliable. Marred by lack of more detailed maps which would have made finding these fascinating buildings much easier. The only map in the back of the book, although helpful, is not sufficient for the purpose. Nevertheless this is an essential tool to anyone seeking Byzantium in Crete.
