5.0 out of 5 stars Ounce Of Nails is an anthem for sonic personification. Do your self a favour..., 5 Mar. 2014
This review is from: Paradise Circus (Audio CD)
A long long long long time ago I made myself a compilation travel CD of the ‘Intended Instrumental Album’. Bizzare enough when you consider how wonderful a voice the S. Duffy has, anyhow, I wore that CD out and had to re-burn it over the weekend and realised this album only has one disk, threw me completely, mind boggling as I was so familiar with my version that has DISK 2 scrawled on it. Anyhow, what a collection of tunes, everything is immaculate. And the sleeve notes are a great read, what an overall image to have painted in one’s head. Thanks guys for a sharing a true testament to humanity (bit OTT? Bollox, I love this so much!!). XBD

This is wild and wonderful, apocalyptic Khaos, dark dark demented murder, acid, speed and death all wrapped up in a hurtling through the stale pub air slobbered over kebab at 4am as the bar has shut just that bit too early but way way too late and you eye the dregs of the losers around you while rolling a smoke through half opened watering eyes all flapping and squinting and prism soaked just like the noise mingling with the decades old patterned carpet, the wall to wall and the ear to ear meeting as the subway car screams to a halt in your pants and the wind chases up and vanishes your pathetic limp smoke and you realise you finished your whiskey, ice and all, & now the bar is closed and you still remember your name, oh no, wait, you don’t, mission accomplished. Yea, the album is kinda like being conscious when you would be better off a sheep.

I was dubious at the start and the couple of pop songs threw me off a bit but this is really a cracking good album. So much fun. It is weird and wonderful, bizarre and intriguing. Solid. What a voice. And what a live band too. This album keeps on giving, but I’m not quite sure what, but but I keep coming back for more, repeat to fade. But but but. Encore. Blancmange are quality, nuff said, now open your ears but but.

This is raw footage and straight from a desk recording so all the band’s sound ropey as hell where as they were alright on the night. Great souvenir to show the grand children when they are off to Sunny Rainbow Daisy Land at the age of six all wired on flogs and sherbet – this is how we rolled back in the day!!

Fantastically well produced slab of an authentic dépêche mode single quality tune. Then the straight remixes. Safe, formulaic, genre box ticking blandness. Nothing pioneering, fresh or original. Why speed up a vocal? Children and adult remix packages should be separate just like their TV schedules. Perhaps I am over critical of this release, perhaps it is just the straw that broke the camel’s back and made him explode in a busy market covering everybody in camel hair, guts, tobacco and coconut milk (what, I’m not a vet, who knows what is inside those humps, it is a truly genuine mystery of the east), perhaps I will play this some evening as the power fluctuates and it will be all woozy and interesting, spewing all frequencies and tones unfamiliar and intriguing with clip and thud loops faded and spiralling as vocals blossom bloom and boom sellotape and binoculars on Tuesday whe

This is beautiful music. If you like music you should listen to this. This is a gem, flawless from start to finish. This is a melodic album of electronically produced music. 70’s Tangerine Dream-esq is a loose reference point, but that in itself is misleading, as Mahler is to Elgar and so on and so forth. This is beautiful timeless music... do yourself a favour.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the alternative..., 25 Feb. 2014
So entertaining, and all the more so because of the authentic shabby image and sound, a direct result of being on a shoe string budget in the early eighties (or intentionally so as part of the overall vision of director Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson). Still, I managed to zap my TV contrast and colour and twist a know or twelve on my EQ and violà, glorious Technicolor surround sound filth as if you were there, cheap acid & Buckfast, tattoos in biro, eyeliner and hash, and so on and so forth. This is the alternative.

Sound design of the highest degree, plus you can dance and hum along. This almost goes far enough, it never does not enough, rip up a frequency or two more or less and we might have a perfect album. Best you play this at a super massive marrow trembling volume for full effect, this is IMAX music, or AMAX if you will. Dark dark dark but lit up bright by imposing futuristic lazers. Deadly.

Teetering on a precipice, pushing, forward. Almost climatic, never cheesy, constantly driving... and extremely danceable. Delicate and well designed delay and reverb ride the pulses over a distant colossal psychedelic spiral. Ominous voices, distorted guitar, echo echo echo. Live drums and drum machines vie for top billing, but the synth pulses and stabs lead the way. This is twenty first century Chris & Cosey. This is too much fun to miss out on. This is too much fun to miss out on. This is too much fun to miss out on... and what a live band too!! I’m in love : )
