Brilliant, straight-up rock album!, 4 Nov 2013
I first heard this "band" on GTA V with the track "Crawling After You" which had a surf rock vibe. It stood out and after listening to some samples, I bought this album. I've listened to it nearly everyday since.
The rest of the record is less surfy; grungy, kind of bluesy and with a sprinkling of punkish attitude. The songs sound a little samey but BDOD has one of the best sounds I've heard in a while. The only other thing that the album can be brought down for is that a couple of songs are a little repetitive and last a bit too long.
John Barrett recorded this album on his lonesome and one thing is clear: This boy is a one-man power trio! He is solid on all instruments and the fact that he made this with pretty much zero assistance is a brilliant achievement.
However you want to describe the sound that he's concocted, at the end of the day, it's just brilliant rock and roll!
