A wonderful mystery! Quite complex, but well done, I read it twice and it details the experiences of the nearly defeated German civilians during the Second World War. It also emphasises the role of the party and different role of soldiers and civilians

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not as well plotted as first novel, 8 July 2014

Very good, but not as well plotted as first novel. Plot bit convoluted and less than believable. Developing relationship between Cormorant and his assistant held my interest and I look forward seeing how things move on in the next book in the series. Would prefer less gratuitous violence.

I enjoyed the book - well written with lots of twists and turns - would recommend it, but ultimately thought the plot a bit thin.
