4.0 out of 5 stars It is a long read, 2 Nov 2013

This book starts rather strangely with lots of chapters that seem to be totally unconnected. It left me wondering if it was going to be worth reading. However, persevering everything started to come together and by the end it was a good read. Little dated but that is to be expected.

Wasn't sure what I had here at first. Rather strange for Western people but not uninteresting for that. Many stories seemed to end before their time but perhaps that is the way Japanese like to do things.

Quite an interesting read but you keep getting the feeling that you have read things before and that is because the author uses the same phrases and sentences quite a bit. Interesting to read a straight forward view from the men on the spot but there are better books allbeit not for free.

Read this in one sitting as it is quite short. It is good to see that fortress enthusiasts are putting their work on kindle for the free enjoyment of like minded people. So a big thank you to Zdenek for that.

This book is really most useful if you want to visit the sites many of which you would probably never know about without this book. Sadly it doesn't really go into the history and construction details of these defences which would have earned it another star.

That said it is a useful addition to the subject.

Bought this to get a good overview of a group I used to like a lot in my younger days. brought back many happy memories and introduced me to their newer work too.

The actual product looks like a book and is very attractive, everyone in my family has commented on how good it looks.

Great value for money and a great treat too.

I'd never heard of Lissie before I saw her live at the Hard Rock Calling festival a few months ago. She was great, fantastic voice and a very pleasant nature. On the strength of her performance I decided to buy this cd. It is ok but nothing like as good as she was live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellence as the norm, 8 Aug 2013

As usual the Then and Now boys have produced another excellent book. As in their Monte cassino book there has been a switch to colour modern photos which is fine, certainly helps you to find places if you visit! I have all the major WW2 books and this is as good as the best.

Ordered this card for a new camera i bought my wife before going on holiday. The card was dispatched rapidly and arrived in plenty of time for our trip to the USA.

My wife was delighted with her camera (a Samsung) and the card worked perfectly. She was able to take as many pictures as she wanted given that even at 14 megapixels it holds over 6,000! The write speed of the card was more than enough for the shots my wife took and is great for all normal camera use. I can highly recommend the card and the supplier (and the camera!). Just wish my older camera could use these higher capacity cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars 34 years of use!, 8 Oct 2012
I bought the original book when it came out in 1978 and it can only be given 5 stars! I still use it regularly today when I want some concise easy to find info. on a German AFV. The book is very comprehensive and very well made. As my title says I have regularly used this book for 34 years and it is still in great condition. Probably the best single book purchase I have ever made. It doesn't go into reams of info. on each vehicle and there are no colour photos/drawings but that was never the books purpose. Its aim was to cover all venicles and major marks and give basic info. on them and it does this brilliantly. If you like certain types of vehicle, get specific books on those but if you want an overall book on German AFVs it would be hard to find a better option. Certainly I have many books on the subject and have never found anything better in the English language.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another 'what might have been', 18 Aug 2012

I now have all 3 German Vehichle books in this series. As with the other two, the photos are ok and the vehicle drawings are great (which is why I buy them). Yet again however the books are let down by poor editing and proofreading (is there any?). There are numerous errors with captions and information tables eg, picture of Panther but captioned as a Panzer 1, pictures stated to be Sdkfz 251 asufA, clearly not that version etc. Also for many of the units the written information tells us all about how they were named in ways to hide their true nature as they were in contravention of the Versailles Treaty, this becomes very boring page after page, why couldn't the editor have seen this and got the writers to explain this at the start and simply refer to this for the spcific units. As I said poor (lazy?) editing. It's a shame really as if they had done their jobs properly this (and the others in the series) could have been realy good introductory books to the subject.
