5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Book, 2 Jan. 2012
Great book written with passion, or the words of her TV passion. Still informative fun and just a great read. Buy this. Why is there so little on DVD?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Item.... But Not Thought Through, 22 July 2010
The sound quality is excellent for the size of the unit with a very rich tone, you can turn the iPhone on its side and in that position it is locked in place so can't fallout when moved. In general a very good product.

My only two gripes are as it is meant for being used on the go why no carry handle? Also you have a switch on the back to go between onboard battery power or mains input, which is a bit annoying if like me it follows you around the house and you are constantly switching between the two.

Battery life is very good and the soft carry case it comes with would be useful for travelling. It comes with a remote, but cannot see the point in such a small item! But generally good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD Great DVD - Get It!, 16 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Live From London (Audio CD)
This is simply a stunning album and DVD. A selection of some of her greatest hits with some new ones as well. Nothing short of brilliant. Not only brilliant songs she has written making her world famous but a performance second to none. The Grass is Blue, Little Sparrow... She plays everything from the penny whistle to a grand piano to a twelve string guitar.. with great aplomb. If you only know her from 9 to 5 or Coat Of Many Colours, they are all here. Wonderfully and genuinely performed. Enjoy a seminal performer, in a great performance, buy this, you will not be disappointed..

This review is from: ANSWER ME (Vinyl)
I got his album because of the title track, Answer Me. But immediately fell in love with all the songs, and the brilliant production. The band backing Barbara are just great, her voice is strong an fresh. In all a stunning album. Her best, and I have five others. It is criminal this not available on CD or download. Get the vinyl and put it on your PC! Well worth the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Back Ry - Great Album, 8 Mar. 2007
This review is from: My Name Is Buddy (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Ry man and boy for the past 30 years or so. As a pure fan of Ry Cooder it is many a long year since we have our real Ry do his own album as opposed to reflecting or pursuing the cause of others, laudable though that is. This is welcome return to the genius that is Ry Cooder, comfortable in the era that is his, the dust bowl 1930's of the USA with brilliant songs, written by him which tell a fascinating story. The album comes with a book (no, not a booklet). This is a good read which is written from the point of view of a cat for each song, great reading as well as listening, you don't get this with an MP3 download!!

Most of his original usual stunning set of musicians assembled to accompany him on this journey. This is genuine great music in a time when it is in very short supply. Some not easy to grasp at first, but stick with it and be very entertained. Welcome back Ry. More of the same, good to have you back!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Emma!, 5 Dec. 2006
This review is from: Life In Mono (Audio CD)
This is just a stunning album. Her last, Free Me was a wonderful collection of 60's type songs. This is more of the same but with a modern twist, and has come of age, she has made this her territory.

There is a blatantly Bond theme type track (they should ask her, we could do with a decent new Bond song). Some great melodies which, similar to her first album are not immediately catchy, but you find yourself playing them again and again to get the nuances she puts in.

This lady must spend some serious time in the studio getting her songs honed to a fine finish. The production is as smooth as silk, without being over done.

Emma always has at least one fun catchy track, in this case it is track 7 Take Me To Another Town. This track alone is worth the cost of the album.

My copy has the bonus tracks, amongst which are the sixties classics Something Tells Me and Perhaps. Brilliantly done.

All in all a great album and this Spice lady has a great future, no flash in the pan here. Talent will out and it has here. Sexy Sassy and her best yet. Well done Emma, more of the same please!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album - Don't Miss Out On This One, 31 May 2005
This review is from: Down In The Bunker (Audio CD)
I first saw Steve at an Oxford University gig, and he was astounding, and still is, live. But this to me is his seminal studio album. After seeing him I went out and purchased "Any Road Up" and "Rollin On'" both of which good, but not great albums. This is his very best.
Not only does it have great music, from the opening powerful "Down in The Bunker" to a wonderful number "No Spitting On The Bus" It has a line of humour running in all the lyrics which have to be heard to be appreciated. For instance the opening of "No Spitting" goes: "You may bored to the point of aggravation/Excited as a lighted fuse/Sick with the sight of degradation/Or you may think you have nothing left to lose/But it don't matter what you feel/You can beg, you can borrow or steal/ But as long as I'm holding the wheel/I don't want No Spitting on the bus....
Steve, and so the album, is so cool it cannot even take itself seriously, it has an edge which I still enjoy today after all these years. There hardly a poor track on this album, all the tracks tell a story which you will want to return to again and again.
There are crafted songs such as "Down In The City", "Big JC" and "Any Road Up".
The charting "Johnny Vortex" for my money is the weakest number (but still good). Aimed at the charts, and it scored its point, but is far to contrived.
"Let's Do It Again" also has a great line: "When the thrill is cheap/It's a golden rule/ To Do it all over again...."
"Mary Ain't Going Home" tells a touching story with a cheeky opener from a sexy girl: How old do you think I am....."
"When You Get Outside" is the story of someone in chokey being told what a great time his wife and family are having, nothing short of brilliant.
"Any Road Up" Is a number about religion. Again, random, but great....
Apart from his live album (Caught in the Act, the best live album ever made in my opinion) of all his output, this is his very best. Do yourself a favour and buy it, sit back, turn up the volume and enjoy. Yow won't be disappointed.
