1.0 out of 5 stars Past its sell-by date yet still sold., 16 May 2015

Save your money. A selling point of this offer is the worked examples available on the web for for download. However, the published link http://expression.pinkand.yellow.com re-directs you to http://mor10.github.io where the author now says this:-

". . . Expression Web was a great product and one I believed in. Unfortunately Microsoft decided to discontinue the development of the application and as a result it has quickly lost its luster and will likely go the way of the dodo shortly. As it stands I cannot recommend investing time and effort in learning to use the application. You time is better spent learning to use more modern applications and Content Management Systems . . ."

Says it all really. If the author no longer believes in "investing time and effort" in an obsolete product then what is the point of also investing money in what is now a dodo of a book? I for one regret having done so.

1.0 out of 5 stars Battery life?, 21 Jan. 2015

Despite the fact that the mouse was always switched off when not in use, the first (and new) battery has lasted five day.s I'm now trying a rechargeable and keeping fingers crossed for beating that five days. However, I've a feeling that this will be a short-lived mouse . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Works beautifully, 30 Jan. 2014

Does the job beautifully, in all senses of the word. I wonder if those who have problems burning blank discs with the Superdrive and an iMac are aware that you need to set up System Preferences to suit, otherwise the disc will not be recognised.

1. Open System Preferences.
2. Click on the "CDs and DVDs" icon.
3. A dialogue box opens. Under "When you open a blank CD" select "Open Finder".
4. Do the same for "When you open a blank DVD".
5. Close the box.

The system will then put the blank disc in the sidebar, and files need only dragging and dropping. The disc space used, and the amount remaining, appear in the status bar at the bottom of the box.

If your Mac has different options, then the thing to remember is that you do NOT select either "Do nothing" or "Open disc utility". Anything else should work.

Playing a recorded disc is just a matter of clicking on the Superdrive icon and does not seem to need any special measures.

2.0 out of 5 stars A heroic failure., 19 April 2013

It's a good idea, and my impression from talking to the sellers is that they are making an honest and valiant attempt to deal with this problem. For a few weeks all went well, and the gadget did its job quite well. Then emails from legitimate callers, who had failed to get through, caused me to make a check call to my number from my mobile. I found that the Call Blocker was allowing outgoing calls but for a couple of weeks had been blocking ALL incoming calls, not just the blocked list. So far as callers were concerned, I had a completely dead phone. Restoring the blocker to its factory settings seemed to fix this, but Caller Display no longer worked. On disconnecting the blocker, Caller Display returned -- this is an essential feature since unidentified calls need to go to the answering machine first.

Sadly, I have had to to bin the Call Blocker, which I can best describe as a heroic failure. No hard feelings, but it needs more development.

3.0 out of 5 stars Same old problem, 15 Mar. 2013

The Organiser is the same old pain in the ****. They've just invented new ways to foul things up. I use Nikon ViewNX2 to organise things -- at least it does things the way I want, rather than what Nanny Adobe wants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Did not disappoint, 17 Jan. 2013

I'm very pleased with Nuts and Bolts, which I bought after reading Helen Osborn's recommendation in her book Genealogy: Essential Research Methods. I reckoned that if it was good enough for the editor of Family Tree Magazine then it was worth a try.

Nuts and Bolts did not disappoint. This 64-page A5 booklet, which deals succinctly and entertainingly with a specialist area of family history, might be small but is concentrated essence of know-how, elegantly written and free from waffle. And tfhpd57 are very nice people.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why no ferries?, 15 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very good performer but for one major failing. The Europe map on which, apparently to the surprise of our American friends, the UK is an island contains no POIs (points of interest) for ferry terminals. According to Garmin Portsmouth, Hull, Calais, Boulogne, Zeebrugge etc have no ferry terminals. And as for how the Scottish Islands cope (let alone the Greek). . .

If you have the ferry terminal's postcode then you have a chance, but the 10-year old VDO Dayton CD_based system which the Nuvi 1490 is replaing would take us not only direct to the terminal at Portsmouth but would steer us into the right quayside for the line concerned.

An email to Garmin Customer Services has elicited no reply.Garmin Nuvi 1490 Bundle with Lifetime Traffic & Mapping Update Voucher
