This is OK, but not nearly up to the standard of "Introducing Robin McKelle.

Some Interesting Memories: A Paradoxical Life
Some Interesting Memories: A Paradoxical Life
by Raymond M. Smullyan
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating read, 16 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Some of the stories Smullyan relates here I have seen before and some were new to me. However, the author is such an engaging character, and has lived such an amazing life, this book makes a fascinating read.

Speed : Escalades de vitesse sur les trois grandes faces nord des Alpes
Speed : Escalades de vitesse sur les trois grandes faces nord des Alpes
by Ueli Steck
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Anyone with even a slight interest in climbing MUST READ THIS!!!, 16 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read the French translation of this book and found it excellent. As to the content, it reads like a thriller one cannot put down. I have climbed the Grandes Jorasses from the Italian side and looked down the north face. The idea that anyone could climb this "on sight" in a few hours simply blows the mind. There are passages which it is impossible to down climb, but on which Steck could not possibly have been certain of succeeding. Thus, even a guide with whom I climb from Grindelwald who takes clients up the Eigerwand does not believe that Steck really has the risks under control. However, be that as it may, this is an amazing book.

74 Panoramas : Voyage au centre de la Haute-Savoie
74 Panoramas : Voyage au centre de la Haute-Savoie
by Patrice Labarbe
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures but not printed with the quality one now expects., 16 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been to many of the places from which the pictures were taken and they give an excellent impression of the region. The composition of the photographs and the lighting are all good. However, the quality of the pictures as printed in the book is disappointing. They were taken on film, and either their inherent quality, or the mechanism used to print them, is not up to current standards. They simply don't have the sharpness and clarity of modern digital images.

4.0 out of 5 stars The British in the Alps, 18 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fascinating description of British first ascents in the alps. Unfortunately Stephen nowhere explains how he communicated with his guides who spoke in their local dialects. Even people from Zürich today have difficulty with Valaisdeutsch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Feynman, 23 April 2014

Everything that Feynman wrote is worth reading. He has definite ideas and describes then clearly. A breath of fresh air in our world of hypocrisy...

The Meaning of it All
The Meaning of it All
by Richard Phillips Feynman
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the usual Feynman standard, 23 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Meaning of it All (Paperback)
The first two lectures are classical Feynman but, as he admits, he had run out of ideas for the third one. This consists of a collection of anecdotes and rambles somewhat without making a clear point. On the other hand, anything written by Feynman is worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant biography, 4 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Let me apologise if this sounds like an advertisement, but the book is certainly the best biography I have ever read. Although I understand the physics, and have read other works about Oppenheimer and many of his colleagues, I couldn't put it down. Neither could a friend to whom I leant it. The book reads almost like a pot-boiler, but the research and quality of the writing are both excellent. I was fascinated to discover all sorts of details and anecdotes of which I was unaware, including yet another brilliant line from Dirac. Anyone with an interest in the Manhattan Project, its protagonists and its aftermath, must read this book.
