Tragedy and Hope 101: The Illusion of Justice, Freedom, and Democracy
Tragedy and Hope 101: The Illusion of Justice, Freedom, and Democracy

5.0 out of 5 stars The most important lesson, 26 April 2016

What's happening in the world today makes little sense when viewed through the prism of western education and media. Our understanding of history is founded on lies, distortions and misinformation. Carroll Quigley was an "insider" who exposed the Anglo-American cabal, that sought to rule not just the US but the world, in his 1300 page text, Tragedy and Hope. Joe Plummer has distilled the essence of Quigley's writings into his Tragedy and Hope 101 and reveals the essential elements of knowledge and understanding necessary to make sense of the world today.

"Be forewarned. The journey you are about to begin is not for the faint hearted. If you are comfortable with the illusions that currently pass for political reality, this book is not for you because, once you discover how the deceivers perform their magic, the comfort of ignorance is no longer possible. Once the bell is rung, it cannot be unrung." - G. Edward Griffin

5.0 out of 5 stars Not all Jews are Semites, 4 Mar. 2016

Forensically researched origins of people self-identifying as Jewish, many of whom are descended from Kazars who converted to Judaism centuries ago and intermarried throughout Europe. These Jews are not Semites, which originated in Palestine and the Middle East and settled in Spain, rendering the term anti-Semitic when applied to Israelis, most of whom migrated from Northern and Eastern Europe (Ashkenasi Jews), nonsensical. The book also exposes a lack of homogeneous physical traits across the Jewish race. In short there is no Jewish race in much the same way as there is no Islamic race. The book is essential background to Zionism and should be considered in the context of the concentration of power within a Structural Elite. [...]

A book that everyone should read - 9/11 was the defining moment of the 21st century and unless we understand what did and didn't happen that day, we will neither make sense of the world nor escape the inevitable spiral into collapse.
http://freecriticalthinking.org/daily-pickings/1620-exploration-of-9-11-as-an-inside-job

False flag attacks, subsequent to 9/11, show similarities but those responsible go to some lengths to exclude the media (other than for the choreographed "coup de grace") and keep information hidden to avoid "truthers" exposing their plots. Their limited success in hiding information is compensated for by the wider public's disinterest or reluctance to engage with the truth - not least because it challenges all their cherished beliefs.
9/11 was conducted in plain site and the duration of the attacks meant the world watched as it unfolded. But not all was as it seemed on the day. The Hidden History of 9/11 comprises a series of explorations of different aspects of 9/11 starting with the identities of the alleged hijackers, why more than half of them were found to be alive after the event and the use of doubles to confuse and distract - what is interesting are the relationships between key individuals and intelligence/security services.
The book goes on to explore the insider trading in the lead up and the multiple hijack exercises being conducted on the day. The most compelling evidence that 9/11 was an inside job is the way the buildings came down - including WTC7 of which most people remain unaware. The irrefutable conclusion is the all three buildings came down as a result of controlled demolition. If that's the case, it could only have been an inside job.
For those embarking on examination of the attacks of 9/11, The Hidden History of 9/11 is a good starting point - it is well referenced and covers most of the necessary ground to judge the merit of the 9/11 truth case. It also puts the events of that day into geopolitical context and raises the essential question cui bono?

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent description of austerity and its consequences, 18 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an excellent guide to neoliberalism from its roots in the Bretton Woods agreement of 1944 up to today. It covers major manifestations of the abuse of power and corruption within the UK establishment and relates them to tragic stories of real victims of this ideology.

Austerity is the latest manifestation of the Shock Doctrine, so brilliantly exposed by Naomi Klein, which devastated Latin America in the 1970s and 80s and has been rolled out across the globe under the IMF and World Bank's Structural Adjustment Programs.

The book merits 4 stars, as excellent as it is within its brief, because of precisely that - it's perspective is too focused on austerity rather than the political economy which gave rise to it.

Austerity, the Shock Doctrine, Thatcherism and the Neoliberalism are all inevitable consequences of fundamental flaws in the political economy which pre-dates Bretton Woods by centuries. The concentration of power among a "Structural Elite", who are both architects and beneficiaries of the abusive, destructive political economy, is what created austerity and existing political structures are incapable resisting their power. To rise in politics demands abeyance to the Structural Elite; otherwise you will be ostracised, ridiculed, criminalised and if that fails, killed.

In short, this book is an excellent introduction to one manifestation of Structural Elite power but we need to go much deeper:

A good balance to the one sided view of the period leading up to WW2. Obviously, favouring the author's position but no worse for that.

Good alternative history and perspective on America but tainted by remaining somewhat parochial and distorted. Nonetheless, a useful contribution to understanding today's hegemon.

One of the greatest English storytellers who gives colour to history while highlighting the social tensions in 19th century England. The characterisation of the law preying on the vulnerable and naive is stark and rich in perspective. Intricately woven with wonderful amiable and unsavoury characters. Hard to put down once you've passed the first chapter.

Contains good data but narrowly focused on private debt (including corporate debt), hence only four stars. It fails to get to grips with the fundamental flaws in our debt based economy. However, it balances out the myth that government debt is the major problem to be addressed, by austerity.

In short, it is lack of income in people's pockets which is the problem. Hitherto, for the last 35 years, debt has supplemented the income shortfall. The trick no longer works. Kicking the can down the road only works for so long.

It was an interesting balance to the vilification of Hitler, in that one begins to understand the roots of his nationalism and hatred of Jews. That he was misguided is undoubtedly true but he makes some accurate observations which are useful in broadening one's understanding of history and the two world wars. I haven't yet read far through the second half of the book which is a list of his prescriptions - I confess to losing interest.
