1.0 out of 5 stars checked paper is not good, 17 Aug 2014
What you cannot see in the pictures or product description is that the face of the paper is checked!! This makes it hard to write on and very uncomfortable to read from. Such a pity because if it was plain it would be lovely. As it is, it will give you a headache.

5.0 out of 5 stars watch the film first, 21 April 2014

This is a soundtrack to a wonderful documentary film about a famous recording studio. The musicians who shared the director's (Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters) affection for the sound production of that studio get together and make music with the original sound board recording equipment. Includes performances by some true greats. One for music buffs who appreciate the artistry that has been lost with modern digital recording

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed experience, the genius lies in the title, 6 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As with many Bizarro books, much of the content is mixed. This is a collection of short pieces, many of which start well but don't really go anywhere, or are just undeveloped concepts. There are better, more complete Bizarro works out there but nevertheless it is interesting and worth a try.

Some very touching lyrics mixed in amongst a large number of hugely inappropriate and very funny ones. I laughed a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as clever as it likes to think it is, 21 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lightning Rods (Kindle Edition)
I should have been better prepared for this by the ham-fisted introduction which attempted to explain what satire was (should anyone be confused that this is what was being attempted). This should have been a clear indication that the writer/publisher wasn't confident in the ability of the book to make this evident by the writing - but I chose to read it anyway.
The book has an interesting premise but it fails spectacularly in the writing and it doesn't deliver on the potential of an out of bounds idea. Very disappointing.

It was ok, it started to get going and then ended abruptly. Pity, it felt like it was going somewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars An honest an touching account of a determination to remain positive, 18 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I don't normally read these sort of books, the emotional journey, inspirational tales sort of stuff, but I have always liked her music, I have all of her albums and I thought she might be worth listening to on the page.

I wasn't disappointed. The style is like a friend chatting over a cuppa and she is refreshingly honest and unassuming in her description of her life, the events that unfolded, or the struggles she encountered. There is nothing sanctimonious or self conscious about her account of the desperation she faced, or the various types of alternative healing she tried.

She says things as the were and what she felt, and leaves the conclusions to the reader.
